CDC's academy is literally a joke. Although career wise you will retire with the best benefits. I prefer the large department I work for.
I've worked corrections, patrol, and other various assignments. With larger departments you have more opportunities to advance. I didn't want to be stuck in a car for 30 years.

+1, I think sheriff's departments offer the most. I am starting the Sacramento Sheriff's Academy March 29, but I am self sponsored and paying for everything. Hopefully, I will get picked up while I am attending. [ February 02, 2008, 05:03 AM: Message edited by: rgtrahn ]

nah nothing like that. More like where would I be? Working down south away from family n friends working patrol. Here I've done a lot of things I've wanted to do. Lots of exposure to different situations and programs only about 2 yrs into my tour so far.

That part is true... but its only 1 year. Most people are sent to the bay area anyway. You also forgot the live in Academy for 6 mo. Thats great! ( ) Every dept has its good and bad things. I wish the CHP would go to 12's or even 10's.

check it out bro, i've been out of the cdcr academy for almost a year now. It is easy if you apply a little effort, the book work is very direct and the tests are word for word out of the books, keep in mind they are OBJECTIVE BASED, remember that term when you get to the acad. and you will see what i mean, the PT is progressive in length so it doesn't overwhelm the body. The SRGT's put on a good show on your first day but don't be intimidated they aren't that mean but for the first day or so. Be prepared to be extremely uniform and straight and narrow(the 4 months will fly by. when you go on your cosits, try not to look too puckered up and after a few it will be common place, inmates will stare you down and expect you to look away first, don't! all in all its not bad, the food is only good for about two days, BEWARE: DON'T GET CAUGHT UP IN ALL THE HIGHSCHOOL STYLE DRAMA...TRUST ME YOU'LL SEE.
