I think this pic explains it all. I'll bet his walker got stuck under the brake pedal and he lost it. [ October 14, 2007, 06:45 PM: Message edited by: asskickn88 ]

No, rip the drive train out and throw it in a notch. My personal preference would be a 93 Cobra or a clone with that motor and trans.

Wow, sucks for that guy. Hope he is OK. I was there on Saturday he was in the beginners group. Turn 9 going backwards is very tricky. It's blind, over the top of a hill, with zero run off area. The dirt was also wet which likes to grab tires going sideways. 500hp in a 2 ton car is not a good combo for road course racing.

You have to tape the headlights so if a rock does hit them you don't get random glass/plastic on the track. In his situation, too much car for a beginner on that track with those conditions, in that corner, oh and with those tires. He had no hope going in basically IMO.

so since the car was driven on a road course does that mean the repairs are 100% the owners responsibility?

There are a couple of companies that cover "racing surface" incidents. Your run of the mill AAA, Mercury, Allstate etc. do not cover racing surface incidents. This is just part of the risk of road course driving. Somebody wads up their car every single event. My first ever track event some guy destroyed his 911 GT3 right in front of me.

Insurance claims do vary from company to company but I can say that no car damaged in a NASA HPDE incident has been refused. Including rental cars. NASA will back you up 100% in getting the claim covered.
Think of it this way; What is safer, an unlicesend driver on the streets with mom and dad or on a closed course with a licensed instructor? It also depends on the sanctioniong body.

I talked to my insurance guy before doing an Open Track Day with a club and he told me as long as it's not a race or timed event, I would be covered. I have personally seen a few cars wiped out at OTDs and I have had my car sprayed with debris. That's exactly why I picked up a Fox Body to go smash around the track. Too many yahoos and guys driving over their heads. I stopped running with one group, because I don't believe in "Self Teching Your Car".
Too bad about that GT500.

So, the handicap placard isn't mine, but was under the seat. I put it in there for y'all to have something to make fun of. Seriously, though, on stock tires the Shelby was a handful if I got into the throttle, too much. Other than that it was a dream to drive. It really doesn't handle as poorly as it should. (Skeptics can begin flaming, here.) (If you haven't driven one, don't speak.) My experience in turn nine is only related to the fact that I could pick up so much speed, not because there was too much power. I spun because I didn't brake going uphill into nine, as I had been the entire rest of my time on the track. (Brain fart, I guess.) I couldn't shed enough speed to make the corner after the crest of nine, so the tail came around, the left tires debeaded and the wheels bit into the dirt. Yes, it was the cool-down lap, but (bonehead me) I missed the flag 'cuz I was passing someone on the straight and didn't look at the flagman. I'm not defending my actions, here. I thought you'd like to know what happened, since some have been writing about the accident. I may even post-up the in-car video I have.
For the flamers and haters, there are only two people that have any clue as to what happened - I'm one. The flagman in turn nine is the other (unless he was asleep.)
Thanks for the condolences, I'm OK, 'cuz the Shelby's built Ford-Tough. (Both doors still open and close, BTW.)
IF you are the a$$h@1e that stole the cobra from my front grill (I doubt it was a Mustang-owner, but I wanted to put it out into cyber-space) while I was in the infield medical center, I hope you window your engine block someday soon.

Good to see you made it out without any major injuries, because by the looks of the car, it seems that it could have been worse.
By the way, can I have dips on the engine and tranny
