I love the way reporters write this crap: "One Mustang had a racing engine in it, police said." "But he added that he bought his 1994 Mustang two years ago and souped it up to make the engine sound bigger."

They all face several misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and prearranged speed competition. Their cars, some valued at up to $40,000, likely will be sold at a public auction, police said.

What gives the authorities the right to sell their cars? Only only reason I can think of is that the cars where stolen or had stolen parts in them, but DMV claimed those cars. Stolen parts would be one hell of a case to prove unless the parts have serial numbers on them.
I am assuming the other cars where bought legitametly with their own or parents hard earned money and what gives the authorities the right to sell your car?

Here's what the CHP says: A first conviction on a street racing violation means:
- Minimum county jail sentence of 24 hours and maximum of 90 days. - Vehicle probably impounded for at least 30 days. - Owner responsible for vehicle's towing and storage charges ($1,000 or more). - If owner fails to pay, vehicle could be sold at a lien sale. - Anyone who aids or abets a street race also faces a maximum 90-day jail sentence.

but that is what the streetracing scene is. If hes talking about coming to a light and a vette pulls up next to you who you don't know at all and they throw a rev and its on when it turns green then i can understand that a 67 year old would do that and i don't consider that streetracing but meeting in a large group of people and going somewhere like this post is about i would think thats weird if there was a 67 year old doing it just like the 31 year old. Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
Huh, what about the lights that come on porsches, audis, bmws, mercedes, acuras, etc?

I picked up a panflit about street racing and illegal car modifcation at CHP booth at Health Fair. I talked to the CHP and he said that it is unsafe and so on but they would have no reason to pull you over if you don't draw attention to yourself.

I reread the article. They quoted the police who said the cars "likely" be aunctioned off....I assuming this is coming from the same cop(s) that said one mustang had a "racing" engine in it. I think only the cars (owners) that can't pay for the fees and fines will be auctioned. There can't be a law that says all impounded street racing cars will be sold of in auction.
