I am the proud owner of my first 5.0,its the 1984 CFI AOD HO mustang LX. What can i do with this motor as far modifications? Can anyone help me out far as specs for this year. Its has gears from what i can tell and a 7.5 rear( which I am changing to an 8.8) ,single exhaust power windows and locks rear defrost, grey cloth interior,A/C, I have'nt really gotten the hood open yet, but i am gonna give it a thorough tune and washing soon. in the future I may change the front bumper to a 86 GT! I'll probably repaint it Black and getnew moldings and 5.0 badges and Of course put some Welds on it! hopefully it will up to snuff by the 2nd gathering! Thanks for looking.

DOnt get discouraged, because you have a real gem here. But you will need to do a lil bit to get this up to where a 5.0 should be. First off, the 5.0 in there is not the more powerful motors found in the 86 and up's. But the good thing is that is carbeurated. Carbed motors are fun to mod. I'd try to find a motor out of a 92 5.0 to get the forged internals (or you may get lucky and find a motor with hyperpneumatic internals) You are going to need a double hump cross member to run true dual exhaust. Right now it probably has a y-pipe with a single hump x-member. You already know about the rear end. I'd change that soon. All in all you have a real gem here. Dont sell it! Unmolested 4 eyeds are hard to find these days.
I'd start mods with the rear end, alum drive shaft, exhaust and sub frame connectors.
Congrats on the find.

I think it has to do with production numbers and cars still on the road. I know the are lighter, so more adept for racing. Not sure of the numbers for 83. There is a mustang registry where you can put in your vin number and get some good info about your car. I forgot the url...Ill post it if I remember it.

If you are in the Newark area then go to pick N pull. There is a 92 lx 4banger there with an 8.8 rear end in it. Color is tourqois with shitty silver racing stripes. Cant miss it [ January 06, 2006, 11:30 AM: Message edited by: Jdub07 ]

Wut up molester.
LOL @ "if your really lucky you can get hypereutectic internals".....why would you want hypereutectic pistons instead of forged?
Anyways, The good news is most if not everything from an 87-93 will fit. I'm sure you can get the front suspension from a newer one to run the 11" brakes instead of the 10" ones in there right now. Stuff is cheap bro and you can get some extra umph out of it. Shit if you wanted to you can fuel injected and still pass the smog check. [ January 06, 2006, 11:42 AM: Message edited by: Fostang ]

Yeah it was my car for about a month or so until I was done rapeing the interior out. Had the rear end looked at by a couple people and was confirmed to be a 8.8 and the guy I bought the car from said an 8.8 was put in it...WAS going to be a conversion car.

Fostang was the molester comment towards me??
Yea they are a step above forged, but sometimes that is debated, I can go into a long speech about it but I wont. I think you can tell by one having a green oil pan vs a gray one. Also there are a few good dismantlers in rancho cordova for some parts that are hard to find.
