So I have a vibration in my 69 mustang with a roller 302 that I Can't seem to pin point what's causing it. So it runs smooth at idle but once it hits 2500 rpm it vibrates bad inside but I can't feel it outside. To give you an outline the motor is freshened up all the way thru and the harmonic balancer is the correct 50 oz and so is the flywheel and there is no misfire at all, also after changing the harmonic balancer to double check it is still there and now I had a lifter collapse so im in the process of fixing that... I know it's hard to get an idea of what it might be but any suggestions would be much appreciated ( also all mounts are brand new)

When i had this problem it was a missing pilot bearing on the end of the crank on my 1990. I bought it off a guy and it was that way...
Make sure no one stuck any weights or shit on your drive shaft. also check to make sure the the drive shaft is tightly bolted to the rear.

Hey 69stangin,
Just out of curiosity, where's the vibration coming from? Is it happening at a particular speed?
Thanks,
- Michael

It happens even when the vehicle is not moving but only at 2k Rpms or higher and the pilot bearing is installed and the drive shaft is bolted on all the way...
Thanks for the responses so far guys keep them coming

Is it just a stock motor or built? Did u get it balanced? Does it vibrate with the trans in neutral while car is not moving?

maybe it is a misfire causing the vibration. how is the condition of the ignition components? check all your plugs and check for any that smell of fuel.
only thing I could think of that would cause a vibration even when car is not moving.

Is it just a vibration or is there any sort of sputter or stumble?
Also, you said it'll happen when the vehicle is stopped but revved up to 2k? Does the vibration go away at any RPM above 2k?

In neutral it still does it and it's from 2k Rpms and up, also all the ignition components are fine so im thinking its a balance issue

Im having this issue I rebuilt the motor and 2200 miles later the vibration started happening, my vibration is coming from the t5 shifter.. I replaced the balancer, flywheel, pilot bearing, driveshaft it kind of went away and than came back so I replaced the clutch and it went away and was fine driving on the streets but once I hit the freeway the vibration came back even on the streets..im leaning towards a bent input shaft on the tranny if I replace my tranny and it doesn't go away im leaning towards a balance issue [ 2015-04-10, 08:56 PM: Message edited by: ed650 ]
