I am thinking about building a 347 motor for my 92 mustang. My mustang has a stock 302 motor.
My concerns are: *Can i use my current wire harness?
*Can i use my current fuel rails, injectors, maf, etc...?
*Can run GT40 heads, GT40 explorer upper and lower intakes, E303 cam? --What else can i run with this motor?
*Can i use My current exhuast system, which is JBA shorty headers and Bassani off-road xpipe? Then, when smog time comes can i use my stock H-pipe?
*And last, but not least could i use my current tranny. (Stock T5)
Thanks in Advance,
Charles

You can use the same harness
As for fuel supply all that would need to be upgraded depending on your setup also upgrade to some sn95 rails they flow better gas than fox ones
Get a better hci combo if you lookin for bigger numbers get some better flowing heads and intake
A t5 will work but won't last long

The answer to all your questions is YES. But i would UP grade the fuel [pump to a walbro 255. I made 321 WHP with my 347 NA with stock fuel rails. You will also need a tune and 24 LB injectors. Good luck that is a nice combination. I have a stock T5 for 5 years now with no issues. Not the strongest Tranny on the block but it will last if you do not do to many HOLE SHOTS. Good luck Click on this video. This is a real good 347 i built!!

@Tom That engine sounds NASTY. Good Job on the build! I just wish there was someone around me who did good work for a reasonable price. I want to build a 347, but when in comes to engine builds I do not know much. If I were to build the 347 and when smog time comes along would it not pass smog because its not the stock motor?

My 319 with a HCI custom AED cam setup passed smog with flying colors. My old 347 HCI with X303 also passed with flting colors. Not hard at all.

Building a 347 is a piece of CAKE. DO IT!!! KARATE is 100% correct. Nothing tried nothing gained. Good luck. [ 2013-09-24, 05:45 PM: Message edited by: Tom Renzo ]

What's your budget and what are your goals? The stock eliminator guys have done some crazy power with GT40 combos, if you already have the gt40 heads and intake you wouldn't benefit much with a 347 short block, if you plan on building a 347 then I would upgrade to bigger heads, cam and intake. For example a 95 Cobra R comes with a 351 and the gt40 combo and it only makes 300hp with the stock 2.25" exhaust, if it had bigger heads, cam and exhaust it would probably make 350-375hp. A good combo with GT40 stuff would be a 306 or 308 with a little compression. My old 306 with GT40p heads, Cobra Intake, Lentech AOD and 4:30s went 12.2s.

what lee said i guess is the better approach of what i meant. learning isnt throwing any combo together.

There's always ways to make power without having to go to the extreme. We have a member on here that made over 350/350 on a stock shortblock (9:1), good flowong heads, a good intake and a custom cam. Its all about what kind of setup you put together and which parts work well with each other.
