What sizes should the piston rings on a stock 5.0 piston be? I'm rebuilding an engine, and I don't know if I got the right size rings. I ordered the 5/64" top+second rings 3/16" bottom. Is this the right size? Measuring the rings on the pistons right now (old ones), they're smaller than both 5/64" and 1/16" (the only sizes available).
Also, would a B-303 cam work for my application? Stock everything, speed density, AOD, peg-leg 7.5" rear w/ 2.73 gears (i know i know ). I've heard both yes and no, and frankly, it's getting pretty anoyying. [ February 17, 2004, 05:20 PM: Message edited by: zpyro35 ]

im not sure about the rings but if u want i have a b cam for sale,its only has 20 miles on it.$80

speed density with a cam never a good idea.
Speed density regulates it self through the use of vacuum.
Performance cams tend to lower the vacuum.
What some people have done is use a vacuum pump driven through their belt to help up the vacuum reading back to the normal 18 or so where as the B cam brings it down to 12.
What it will do is make it run rich and fluctuate the idle.

well I got my summit order today, and the rings are too big (5/64"). I called summit and they set me up with the right rings. Damn metric system, what was Ford thinking...

yep, the rings are metric, 1.5 for the 2 top grooves, 4.0mm for the bottom oil ring. I would try the cam before switching to mass air, all speed density cars act differntly with cams, some run great and some run like crap.
