Loose meaning there's a lot of play in your steering or loose meaning the column goes up and down and side to side?

Loose steering is probably your steering shaft that connects from your rack to your steering column.

Loose column is probably the bolted section under the dash by your hood release latch.

Old worn out steering shaft. Mine used to do the same until I swapped it out for a MM one.

No just the steering wheel has play to it

If its the column and not the shaft, there is an upper and lower bearing. if the bearings are not broken you can add some grease and reinstall, they usually just get moved out of place and cause a lot of movement in the column

Could be just a loose tilt column lever. Easy to tighten the screw.

Mine had alot of wiggle room up and down on my 89. So i took off all the plastic covers as well as the blinker switch and tightened both the steering wheel bolts. I believe they were 9/16s. But could also be what the others say. Ide start here though.
