I would like to know if this is a good combo
Stock short block
Cobra upper/ lower intake
Cold air intake
F cam
Trick flow Twisted heads
1.7 Roller rockers
Underdrive pulleys
Shorty headers
24lbs injectors
Fuel regulator
70mm throttle body&egr spacer
73mm mass air meter
2 row aluminum radiator
Electric fan
Do I have to add or subtract anything from this list my new to the engine and I just want some opinions on this?

Id switch the F Cam for a B Cam or a TFS Stage 1 and it would be a decent combo. Keep the F Cam if you plan on adding boost though

ya ditc the F!! I like TFS1

X cam tfs2

Smaller cam you don't have enough compression/boost for it bigger isn't always better

Alright I should change to tfs 1 cam. Should I change my pistons out and if I do what kind would be good?

and ditch the shortys go with longtubes [Wink]

What's the difference between the shortys and the longtube

Posted by Ham n'Eggs (Member # 8967) on :

Keep the shortys. Longtubes are more expensive and give you a bit more horsepower, but not noticeable.

If I go with the tfs 1 cam would I have to change my roller rockers to 1.6?

No need to change the pistons, not for what you plan on doin with it.

Would it be a waste of money to buy some new pistons?

more of a waste of time really. if you get that deep into it you might aswell change alot of things stroke/bore/rods

How much would it run me to bored it out to a 306?

What TFS heads are you planning on running? FAC 170's, Street Heats? Eiter way you need to port your lower and have your upper gasket matched. Fcam will be fine. B303 or TFS Stage 1 with 1.7's is a good choice as well but you are leaving quite a bit on the table by using those cams with that set of heads. Better off matching your combo with a set of AFR 165's. You are on the right track but keep in mind your intended use for this combination. If you are going to see alot of street use and not alot of track time stock pullies will be a better option. Also, I would recommend running 30# injectors for that combo as well. ProM bullit MAF.

I'm kind new to this what are sfr 165s?

Posted by ROO (Member # 9412) on :

The heads are trick flow twisted edge with 170Cc
and 61Cc combustion chambers

SFR is me mistyping... AFR 165's. To the OP..Given your description, it sounds to me you are thinking of running the FAC 170's. In my opinion the BEST all around head on the market. pair them up with a TFS stage 1 cam, 1.7's on the exhaust, 1.6's on the intake. This is a well documented combination which is great for the street.

Should I bored my 302 out to a 306 with the combination I'm trying to run?

That depends, are you starting out with a new replacement block or are you using an existing block? If the latter, what condition is it in? Miles? maintinance? From a performance standpoint it will not make any difference with those heads.

I got trickflow twisted wegde forged pistons for 100$

Posted by ROO (Member # 9412) on :

I'm starting with a block I took out my car it had like 150,000
miles but nothing was wrong with it

By what measure is there nothing wrong with the block? Your machinist has given it his seal of approval? At minimum I would have the bores measured and cleaned up. maybe go with a line hone as well. Use his expertise with a block with that many miles. I have seen some with 189k look great and some with 75K that look like hell.

Would trick flow twisted edge pistons be good with my combo?

Posted by copcar (Member # 10113) on :

FAC 170's do not need the TW flycut pistons, even with the Fcam and 1.7's. Given the flow data on those heads going over .525 lift is pretty pointless anyway.

Do I have to change my rear end gears to 3.73
With this combo?

Posted by copcar (Member # 10113) on :

Your combo should be:
FAC 170's
TFS Stage 1 cam (1.7's optional)
Ported cobra Lower. (look up Tmoss)
Gasket matched upper
190 or 255 intank pump.
30 lb injectors
Pro M MAF
70 mm tb
3.73 or 3.90 gears (depends on the tire height)
1 5/8 FMS shortie headers.
UPR catted X pipe
catback of your choice
Stock airbox or fender well cold air (no open element in the engine bay)
leave ALL of the emissions equipment on the car.
should run mid to low 12's and lay down identical or better power numbers to my car. 311 rwhp and 335 rwtq It will also pass emission sniffer clean as a whistle.
