i had a feeling it was true but we had this mid pipe on the car so we left it.....someone on a thread in tech talk swore they didnt tho lol

Smog pump just pumps air (oxygen) to the cats to light them up/make them run hotter faster to cut down on smog. Im not sure this post is really conclusive that no air pump kills cats

My 2005 GMC 2500HD with 6.0 gas has no smog pump with cats. My dads hemi dodge has no smog pump with cats.........

Did those cars come stock with smog pumps and you took them off? If so then I could agree with your point, but I THINK (not 100% if I'm wrong forgive me lol!) these cars rely on the smog pump to light the cat off. Kinda like stoking a fire with one of those bellows. If the cat doesn't get hot enough to light off its gonna soot up. I think those newer cars are able to adjust the a/f ratio to replace the actual pump.

They use electric pumps but I dont have one, somebody removed it and my dad's hemi truck doesn't either

yes sir....i was doing some research and found that if your running richer then the cats can handle this is what happens....car does need to be tuned as i can smell gas coming from the exhaust
