I've only been on a mastercraft x star. The thing was super nice. They're suppliers to be top of the line. I don't think you can go wrong with mastercraft, supra or nautical.

You can get a nice older one with low hours for 30k range. They will be complete with sound system, perfect pass, and all the goodies!

Stay away from the master craft hammer head engines. We have had 3 of them at our shop and everyone had oil pressure issues and engine noise.

Got to love the 05' mastercraft x45 seats 18 so plenty of room inside and it has a LQ9 escalade motor in it but you do need at least a 3/4 ton p/u to pull it

Ski centurions are good boats also and yes right before Christmas is the best time to buy!

Now the X80 is my future dream boat but I think id have to sell one of the cribs to do that and I know that ain't happening for a damn boat

Many different options out there. Really depends on what your looking for. The Master Rafts (oh, I mean Crafts [Big Grin] are a lot deeper boat much like the Malibus. For teaching people how to wakeboard and towing people a lot I like to be lower to the water like a traditional ski boat. When you turn around to pick up your rider its a lot easier when you pull up beside them and they are right next to you in the water. The MC's and Malibus tend to have more of a Family boat feel. Whats nice about them is they have a ton of storage and can fit a lot of people. I have always had really good luck with Nautiques. Problem with Nautiques is there really isnt much storage and comfortably only carry about 9 people. They are really good quality boats that are made to last. I would recommend maybe looking at a 99-06 nautique. Looks like there is one for sale local.....
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/boa/2978553387.html
Also the Sanger has always been a good boat. Not sure if they still have wood stringers or not but that would be something to look at. Most ski boats today have done away with wood stringers because they are prone to rotting.
Maybe once you narrow down some choices ask the owners if they would launch the boat for test drive. Best thing to do is drive it and ride in it to see what you think [patriot]

As Harold said, test as many boats as you can and see what you like.

I have a MasterCraft X2 which works well for me. I get a nice surf wake if I use additional ballast and a decent wakeboard wake. I wish I had a little more storage which is like horsepower in a car: you always want more.

Sanger's are nice boats with a little lower price tag than Nautique, Malibu, and MasterCraft. My neighbor has one and I bet I don't have anymore fun than he does on the lake.

Whatever you buy I'd either take someone with you that's been around boats for a while, or pay a shop to take a look at it first. Any slight vibrations you feel in a test drive could turn into huge problems and expensive repairs.

I'd post pictures of mine, but I don't have any on my work computer.

Is that red and white boat the old CIE Xstar? Looks like it's at NORCAL in the pic.

Had a Sanger V210, loved it and had it for five years and ended up with around 500Hrs on it. Sold it to buy my first house. I actually enjoyed the wood stringers gave it a firmer ride. Don't be scared of Wood with Sangers. However I would stay away from anything that has wood within the MC or Nauti line.

If I was going to buy a new boat MB would be my first pick. They seem to be leading in the bang for buck category. I ride now behind a Nauti SV211 and a X10 and I prefer the X10 wake over the Nauti.

I guess you have to ask youself the question what are you going to use the boat for? A real wakeboard boat or a ski beach boat?

True about being kind of a deep v but I like those because it kicks out a nice wake for boarding and Im just starting to learn how to surf behind it also. And when on the water my X45 sits low in the water and Those other boats that you like in my .02 is that there more for the skis or bare footing because of the no wake factor and if you do want a wake you have to fill up ballast or put those bags on the boat which then means less room for people and or worse gas mpg which we all no its not cheape to fill these boats up but specially on the water ,but to each his own... And I know the x45 is over kill for boarding but it's great for surfing and having a ton of friends on board to have a ball if boarding is strictly what you want to do then X star is the one for you but hey if you want inexpensive there are starter boats like the bay liner and there are other boats I can't think of right now that will also work for your family

Are you talking about the Sanger? Most boats now a days have built in ballast setups like the one I posted the link to craigslist. I like both boats, dont get me wrong.....but then again....its kinda like the Ford Vs. Chevy thing, all depends on what YOU like [patriot]
With approx. 5,000 pounds of stereo in my boat I really dont find a need to fill up the ballast tanks [Big Grin]

Wow great advice! More than i expected thanks fellas lots of good info i didnt know. I can definitly feel the difference with the higher end boats with zero vibrations. Im looking to wakeboard more then anything with a nice big wake. Not worried about fitting a ton of people since most of my lake buddies havw there own boats

Sounds like a 21' boat would work perfectly for you. The nice thing about that size boat is that most of them will fit in your garage at home. My X2 fits in my 2 car garage with my Mustang. That'll save you some money over storing it somewhere else or letting it get faded in the backyard. And it sure is nice to get home from the lake and not have to go drop the boat off somewhere else after cleaning it.

As far as the MC line goes you could get an early X-Star ('02 and older) or a 2003-2004 X2 might be in your price range with a few more hours on them.

For Wakeboarding a V-drive (engine in back of boat) will help with the bigger wake. Direct Drives (motor in middle of boat) would work with additional ballast, but then you have people spread out.

If you've got friends with boats just start throwing gas money at them and offering to clean the boat with them. [Wink] They'll appreciate it and you'll move to the top of the invite list.

Love the Deviants. I think the one thing that really made them come alive is the zapco dsp6 digital processor. Ryan at chucktronics did the entire install and a bunch of work to them. From Adding sound deadening to the inside of the boxes to dialing in the crossover frequencies, Im happy [Big Grin]
oops, sorry- forgot to answer your other question- powering each Deviant with a Zapco Reference 1100.1 He sent the amps into Zapco to get re-tuned so they put out 1300 watts@4 ohms.

I'm using a WetSounds 3 some on the tower with a WS amp and EQ and the factory Clarion stuff in the boat. Needles to say I pretty much just run the tower...

Yes this is the old cie boat I bought from billy. Not sure the exact specs on the amps but there's four zapcos one driving four arc audio 12's one driving the 6 jl audio 7.7 interiors one driving a pair of prodigys and one driving a pair of Modus. It has a matrix line driver. I know the amps are tuned with a laptop this shits a little out of my league lol. All I know is it's a great loud crisp sounding system with no games to play the install is spot on I'll I have to do is make sure the batteries stay charged lol

You dont have to.......but its nice to have!
I run 7 group 31 deep cycle batteries with a 210amp Balmar alternator. I've fried (2) 150 amp alternators that didnt have "smart"regulators. The balmar setup has been upgraded with custom pulleys to run (2) alternator belts and a "smart" regulator that has a temp. gauge built in. When the alterator gets too hot it will automatically decrease amperage output to allow the alternator to not overheat and kill itself.

Nautiques dont have much storage because they were originally designed in Florida where most people have a lake on the water and when your done with your set you make your way back to your private dock or boat lift. Out here in Cali. most people set out for day trips where you want to bring the dog, coolers, food, bbq and whatever else you can think of. Thats where a larger boat with more storage comes in.
I havent heard much about Tige boats so I dont have anything to input on them. Of coarse, your going to hear hear horror stories with just about every boat.

i hear a lot of these newer boats, like 99+natiques,tige, mastercrafts have a lot of electrical issues, is this true? could these concert systems be the culprit?

no trick question, i figured you had to, i just wanted to know as to what extent, cause those are some serious systems, you guys have more stereo equipment than most concerts, lol and sorry for the thread jack.
Battery power is always nice with any stero on the water because you usually have people swimming and hanging out around the rear of the boat breathing exhaust fumes all day long can get old quick. A large battery bank will keep you rockin' it...let the good time roll [Big Grin]

I doubt it....I think is just the nature of the beast with there being more electronics/computers on board to do everything.
Ive had my share of electrical problems with my boat....but then again....so have my friends with other brands [patriot]

I've had no problems with mine electrically. Your gonna see a lot of bad talk about every brand boat on the Internet because only the people with the problems are taking time to type about it. Most people don't go out of they're way to praise something that does what you bought it for. I am not brand loyal when it comes to anything I had a Malibu before my Mastercraft and I liked that boat too I just wanted something newer and bigger I have three kids. Don't be shy when looking for a boat tell them you wanna demo it look at every aspect new boats are basically the 2nd biggest purchase you will make besides the house take your time do your research find the boat that fits your needs. Some boats to be interested in

06-10 Malibu vlx or ride
2004-08 Mastercraft x-star or x-2 or even a x-30
Mb tomcat
Ski centurion etc there's a lot out there

I've put 174 hours on my boat in four years with only one problem that wasn't caused by me. I broke an alternator mounting bracket that was known to be a problem from the manufacturer. With that being said, I caught a rope when it broke, so it probably was my fault, but the replacement is an upgrade that isn't supposed to brake.

I have aftermarket stereo gear like everybody else, but that hasn't caused any electrical problems. I've bent all the underwater gear once (my fault), been to the gel coat shop once for a very minor nick (friend tagged a dock lightly while I was parking the truck), and the trailer is in the trailer shop right now because the trailer manufacturer built a shitty trailer (not really the boat manufacturer's fault).

There are a few more maintenance items than a car, but most can be done at home if you have basic tools.

I run four batteries and a single alt.
Yup run three batteries and one alt seems to work just fine
Running four 12s all hidden takes up some storage but I have plenty ,all I need now are tower speakers and looking into wet sound

Wetsounds are cool but I've heard negative things about them they are way more common then nvs or exile. I would consider taking a look at nvs tho if your gonna make a big purchase like that days none of these tower speakers are cheap

No complaints about the Wetsounds from me. I've had them for 3 summers so far and everything still works fine.

here is my old 06 Tige'...loved the boat and miss it very much. bought it new and it never skipped a beat, the dealer forgot to put the plug in the middle of the boat once and the boat filled half way up the motor with water before i got it back on the trailer and still ran like a champ!! the only issues i had was stuff rattling loose and/or causing boken bolts in the tower/bimini..but i had a warrenty. i miss it and cant wait to get a another one! the cobra may soon be up for sale/trade for a wakeboard boat!!!

I've got an old 73 Tahitti hull with a Chrysler 105 on the back (boat looks really good for what it is and is in great shape in/out). Boat scoots up to 43mph perfectly and may not look like these 50k setups, but a day on the water is better than any day on land [patriot]
