I was wondering if anyone here has ever raced in the Silver state classic? How was the tech inspection? How was the over all experience? Would anyone be interested in getting a group together to do the race?

Common any bey wanna go? It's bad ass.

Posted by wilit (Member # 3367) on :

LOL... I would venture a guess that 90% of the people on this board don't even know what that race is.

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

Can someone post a link or a you tube clip of the race so people can see. I don't know how to do that kinda stuff from my phone.

I guess that I fall into the 10%. That race attracts some serious hardware in the top classes.

Yep.... All the big boys come out to play. Theirs some serious shit out there.

Biggest thing is overheating. If you do it, post results!

I think there was a girl in Nor cal LSX who did it. Was in a lower speed category. She enjoyed it and was going to do it the next year when I talked to her last.

Posted by essasin (Member # 4741) on :

I believe there was a sn95 that was featured twice in 5.0 and he was shooting for 200+mph. I believe he got it and then some.

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

I'm definitely going to do it. I was wondering if anyone else wanted to race also. My speed catagory depends on if I change my rear gears back to stock or higher. I have plenty of power. [patriot]

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

Aslowdodge: damn dude you ought to do it see how fast that thing will actually go. By the way I also live in Pleasanton we should get together some time weather and race fuel permiting of course. [Big Grin]

Posted by SteveL (Member # 1241) on :

As a first timer your speed category will be between 95 and 110 mph with a top speed limit of 124.

Posted by 9cobra7 (Member # 2812) on :

You really might want to do an open track day or something first.

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

SteveL: from what I've read I thought first timer top speed was 150mph but I could be wrong. If it's limited to 124mph that's really all the better because my car is geared pretty low.

9cobra7: are their any track events coming up soon? I agree that I should participate in an ppm track event prior to the BIG RACE. It will help me prepare for tech inspections and all the safety requirments. Good idea...

How would there be an open event for the silver state classic? This is not an auto x event???

I would suggest that any car that has low gears and a stock cooling system wont make it. The race is based on an avg mph. So if you're going through a slow section and you're in a 124mph class you have to make up the difference.

Good luck and have fun!

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

Dude.... I know that.

My car is not stock at all. In fact nothing on that damn car is stock anymore.

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

Wait I take it back.... The stering wheel is stock. [Razz]

I'd put my GXP through it; I've been wanting to do this forever.

Posted by Black 02 SS (Member # 5939) on :

Just read through the site & as SteveL mentioned you're limited to a max avg speed category of 110 & max top speed of 124. Touring class also only requires OEM seat belts & doesn't require a cage. Sweeeettt

There is always track events going on with many different groups. I'm probably going to another event Feb. 6th Sat. with Trackmasters. Check there website, they have many events and are well organized and a good group for beginners or experienced drivers. It's going to be a Sears Point my favorite track.

I was reading through the guidelines & its one vehicle per driver.

Well then it's gonna be the mustang. Hhmmmm... Maybe I should just use the truck it'll be way cheaper and I'd be saving the wear and tear on my mustang so when I do it the second time I can be in a way faster bracket.

Posted by Black 02 SS (Member # 5939) on :

Yeah, you could bring the truck. I was watching a video of the parade through Ely last year & saw a Z71 Silverado lol so you'll be fine in the truck.

At least it has a Viper engine. [Big Grin]

when is this years event? and what about the open road event in texas(i think ) the pony express run.. atleast thats what i think it's called... i have always dreamed of building a car for this event... [worship]

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

The silver state is in May as for the race in Texas I'm not sure when that's held but it's just way to far for me to travel.

Posted by gray03gt (Member # 6427) on :

I don't think you or your car are ready for the race. Weren't you the first time road racer talking about your 650rwhp mustang gt and taking it to the track. You will have overheating problems with the blower setup and you should probably get your car on the road track first to see if you and it are ready before you kill yourself trying to go 150mph in an under prepared car.

Posted by Luke87GT (Member # 21) on :

I would love to do this, but 4.30 gears are not compatible with these types of races, lol.

Grey03gt: trying to put me on blast or somthing? You don't know shit about me or my car!! I'm not some kid driving a fast car for the first time!! [Mad]

How many open track events do you have in your history? From your other posts you seem to not have a lot of experience road racing (which isn't bad). I just don't think you understand what is needed to safely compete in that kind of race at 150mph. I can almost guarantee you that your cars setup isn't right and your car doesn't have the proper aero, cooling, oiling, or brakes for this kind of event. Not to mention the safety gear to pass the intensive tech. A silver state classic 1999 cobra was for sale a little while back with full cage, alcon brakes, 3 sets of ccws, drysump, diff cooler, full undertray, wing, splitter, not to mention tons of other goodies. He was running between 150-170.

Relax people, first timers are limited to the 110mph class and CANNOT go over 124mph during the entire 90 mile stretch of the race. I'll be there with my four door front wheel drive family sedan [Big Grin]
