I'm not going to run a heater core so I'd like to delete the black heater tube since its leaking upfront not on the threaded part but the swivel above it. Any how I'd like to delete the black tube and install the sensor there where the 1/2 inch hole is at.Has anyone used a reducing fitting and installed the sensor there without problems?

Yes, just use a simple reducer bushing to adapt the coolant sensor into the lower intake. Really cleans up the top of the motor.
