today i was finishing up the 3g swap, started her up let it idle for like 5 minutes. started setting my timing to 10-12 degrees, im thinking to myself why is it smoking so much from under the transmission tunnel. i ignored it and kept on doing my timing because i thought it was just tranny fluid burning off the cats and pipes. then i noticed the smell was more fuel like, so i looked with the timing light to see why it was getting worst then BOOM red cats and a fire started from passenger side upper cat.
people say it could be clogged or running rich and its non burned fuel. my fuel pressure is at 40psi vacuum cap on and 45psi cap off.
gt40p ported trickflow stage 1 cam ported gt40 intake 24# injectors 255lb fuel pump stock regulator spark plugs autolites copper i gapped it at .40 or .45 or .50
supposely MAF is for 24# from my understanding ford maf never been calibrated for any(internet gurus say). but he claim it was calibrated for 24. so i put the stock senor on the maf housing to test things out. prolly just gonna go back to 19lb injectors until i get a pro m.
reason why i changed the sensors because it ran like crap but later found out i had worn valve stems and one bad exhaust valve.
sorry for the long description, just wanted make sure i gave a brief history for things i did. [ 2013-12-18, 07:16 AM: Message edited by: diablounicorn ]

Ok couple issues I see. Stock regulator is no bueno by now 45 with no vacuum is too much should be at most 40-41 timing is good cat is probably clogged from running it so rich and your plug gap sounds way off but for the life I can't remember the proper gap

Why is the stock regulator "no bueno"? Everywhere I've read they say it's just fine with just bolt-ons. But then again, that's the internet for you. Also read that vacuum connected fuel pressure should be 34-38, unplugged vacuum should be about 44. 40psi for vacuum plugged in is a bit high. Mine is at 38/44.
Autolite copper plugs (3924) I have gapped at .042 with aluminum heads, per engine builder recommendation.
Not sure why your cats are glowing??? Timing sounds good too. Is your balancer in good shape? Maybe it spun and your timing marks are out of whack.

yeah i did it again today cat didnt glow. i cant seem to get my timing exactly at 10 degree with the spout in for some reason, i have to put it at 8 then advance it 2 degrees with the timinig light. even doing that i still have like 15 degrees with the spout in.
today i noticed the the vacuum going up and down from messing with the timining. they say trickflow stage 1 is advanced 3 degrees, i put it in lineing everything up with that line to the crank. should i retard the timing a little bit?
i also read online that the stock regulator should be good. i did order a kirban adjustable to fix it until i find the actual problem and get a tune

Setting timing should be done with the spout connector out. Is there some reason you're doing it with the spout in? [ 2013-12-21, 10:48 PM: Message edited by: Marks93 ]
