I have a oil leak from the differentia, I think I might just need to replace the gasket. has anyone else had this problem? and is gear oil? need to fix asap.

Don't even use a gasket. Put a bead of "right stuff" or RTV around the cover and call it a day. If its a pinion leak, then have someone change it that knows what they're doing. If the pinion drops or you mess up the crush sleeve then you're going to need a rebuild.

if its in the front and you have no idea when it started leaking you are better off rebuilding because you have no idea how much fluid leaked and it is enough to wear out the bearings. Even if you repair the front seal and put new fluid in it the bearings will still go out eventually due to the shaven metal from the bearings into the system
