i wanna buy a shortblock rebuilt 302 that has a 28ounce balencer crankshaft balenced to the 28ounce and 28ounce flywheel. my question is if balencer, crankshaft, and flywheel is all matching "28 ounce" it shouldnt be a problem to swap it in a 89 5.0 which comes with a 50ounce right??? i would still like to keep the fuel injection.
2nd is having the shortblock 28ounce does that mean its only for carb applications? i know you cannot mix 28ounce with a 50ounce but if all is the same no problem atleast thats what i think

The imbalance has absolutely nothing to do with fuel injection or carbueration. It has to do with keeping the crankshaft balanced on both ends. Whatever the crank is balanced to (0oz, 28oz, 50oz) the balancer and flywheel have to match.
From what I've read, the reason Ford went to a 50oz imbalance was because it required less metal to be used in casting the cranks, thus saving money. Since the 351w was essentially a truck/large car motor at the time of the transition, it needed to be more robust, so they kept it at 28oz.

Also, most 28oz blocks do not have the mounting points in the lifter valley to bolt down the "spider" that holds the lifters in place. They may have a knub for where the holes go, but probably won't be tapped. In the older blocks, it may not even have it.
And if the block is an original non-roller motor, then more than likely the lifter housings are too short for a regular hydraulic roller lifter.. so the top of hyd roller lifters would be sticking out too far.

Definitely. Do NOT run a steel dizzy gear with a cast iron cam or vise versa.

This should help a lot more... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/3389420010.html
He states its from an 89 mustang, spoke to him and he said he built it with his teacher at de Anza college. I plan on buying an E-cam and edelbrock performer heads with 1.6 or 1.7 idk yet because I still don't know the difference.
