I've been pretty much replacing all of the sensors in my Mustang here and there since I bought it last year.

Just curious of there is a way to tell if any of these things are bad? I only have an illuminated CEL once in awhile while driving around. KOEO shows no codes, nor does KOER.

Well, I replaced the ACT and ECT sensors as well as the Vapor Canister. The vapor smell has went away, but I still get a CEL while driving once in awhile. This CEL typically illuminates when I'm under partial or full throttle.

today I replaced the ACT Sensor and the ECT Sensor. Seems like idle smoothed out a little. Both of the sensors were covered in red sludge(ECT) and sticky carbon deposits(ACT) Autzone is stepping up and offering lifetime warranty on these items, so I don't mind replacing them. Now if I ever have a problem with them going forward I can replace them free.

the ford shop manual has diagnostic proceedures on all of them, but basically the KOER test does the same thing for you.

most of the tests have to do with testing the leads for resistance and checking against the book for specific temps.

Unfortunately KOER and KOEO both show no codes. I only get a code once in awhile while driving, but it comes on then shuts off shortly after. I get that sweet gas smell coming from the evap canister, so Im not sure if its the can, or if the solenoid. Ill likely just change them both out since theyre nearly 20 years old anyway

how are you dumping codes ?

code scanner or jumper wire ?

are you keeping the clutch pressed in ?

is it in neutral ?

Codes are obtained with the Code Reader Actron/OBD I code scanner for Ford 1984-1995 as seen in the link below

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Actron-OBD-I-code-scanner-for-Ford-1984-1995/_/N-25iq?itemIdentifier=2396_0_0_

My car is a 5 speed, so it's in neutral for all of the scans, but for KOER the clutch pedal is not pressed in because I have to be under the hood to hear/see the code light blink

just use a jumper wire...the clutch HAS to be pressed in even for KOEO, thats why your not getting codes

use a jumper wire and CEL for the codes, and return the scanner

Sounds like egr isnt working. Take it off and clean it with carb cleaner till the plunger can move smoothly.

EGR, EGR Position Sensor, and EGR Vacuum Solenoid were all replaced with brand new units this year. Less than 1000 miles on them. Basically at this point the only stuff I haven't replaced yet is the TAB & TAD solenoids the TAB & TAD valves, Canister Purge Solenoid, Low Coolant Sensor, and Low Oil Level Sensor. I plan on replacing these as well soon.

Stuff replaced with brand new units within the last year and under 5k miles:

O2 Sensors, Barometric Pressure Sensor, EGR Valve, EGR Position Sensor, EGR Vacuum Solenoid, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, Engine Coolant Sender(for cluster gauge), Oil Pressure Switch(for cluster gauge, Vapor Canister, All Rubber Vacuum Lines, Throttle Position Sensor, MAF Sensor, Smog Pump, Water Pump, A/C Pressure Switch, Cap & Rotor etc There's plenty more, but you get the idea.

No. my car was an auto trans when I first got it, so the clutch doesnt need to be pushed in to start the car. The computer has no idea if the clutch is in or out. Plus I'm still using the auto computer.

Not having the clutch switch hooked up, or using an auto computer in a manual trans car?

well they say you dont need to swap the computer...but both guys i know that did the swap , needed to because of drivability issues, but they also did other stuff....so maybe its unrelated

i think you need to find out why the computer wont dump codes...if its not running right...there are codes

and an original t5 care wont dump codes without the clutch in

does your pedal assy have a switch on it? maybe you need to jumper wire that switch, just because the car starts....doest mean the EEC will self test

thats just a guess though.... im trying to figure out why you get no codes

maybe look for other guys who did a t5 swap and kept the AOD computer

I have a spare also. The computer that's in it now has dumped codes many times before. That's why I've replaced a lot of the sensors etc. When I first bought the car the CEL was on. The codes were for the EGR, and Barometric Pressure Sensor. I replaced them and the codes went away. The only time I get a CEL now is briefly while on the throttle then the CEL turns back off.

Not following what you mean here. It has dumped codes with and without the AOD. I went under the hood and unplugged the EGR Position Sensor, MAF, and a couple other sensors and it had codes for all of them KOEO and KOER. The car doesn't run poorly it just has a random CEL under acceleration. When the CEL illuminates it doesn't change how it's running at all.

Are you certain of the vacuum line and hose routing to the tab and tad solenoids, canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure relief valve, fuel pressure regulator, egr valve, a/c check valve, smog pump air injection check valve, vacuum reserve canisters in the passenger fender, cruise control etc. ?????

There are no codes with everything plugged in. When I unplugged the MAF and EGR I want to say it was 61 and 31. When I plugged them back in they both went away.
