I got a 1966 Mustang coupe straight v6. I just got a 1992 5.0 and I want to know can I bolt on the rear end from the 1992 to my 66 or is there some other kind of modification I have to do to make it fit

Also, I am doing an engine and transmission swap from auto to 5 speed, do I need to change any bell housing or anything else for it to fit. And will the 302 motor mounts from the fox body work on the 66 or do I have to buy special motor mounts.

reply asap

You'll need to use the 5 speed and bellhousing out of the donor car.

you need to get 289/302 mounts for that year car, and rear end will work you just have to remove the control arm mounts and add leaf spring perches to mount it up.

as for the tranny, use the motor and 5speed from the foxbody. then you would need petals for the car, maybe a different driveshaft, not sure if foxbody is the right legth, transmission mount need to be changed. and a whole lot of other little things here and there.

id get rid of the 6cyl stang and get a v8, because then you will have 5lug, better rear end, v8 suspension, etc.

good luck.

what kind and how many leaf perches will i need to add to mount it up?

do i buy the tranny mount for my year or the donor year?

and it is a straight 6 but it already has 5lug but still drum brakes
but the body and ini is straight.

can i take the springs from the fox body to put on my 66 to support the weight?

Yes as long as you have a 289/302/351 in it.

To do a 5-speed swap into an auto car (with a V8), here's what you'll need. You'll need '66 motor mounts, the '92 mounts won't work.

'84 T5 (only bought because of the 2.95 1st and .63 5th) - $350 from a buddy
Bellhousing - Included w/transmission
Shifter base - Included w/transmission
Clutch Fork - Included w/transmission
Yoke w/driveshaft from Fox body - Included w/transmission
Transmission mount - Included w/transmission
Flywheel (used) - $40 from Californiafords.com classifieds
Block plate (used) - $15 from Californiafords.com classifieds
King Cobra clutch disc and pressure plate (new) - $120 from Californiafords.com classifieds
Longacre 36" hydraulic line (new part #LON-28050) - $30 from Summit
Throwout bearing (new) - $27 from Summit
Roller pilot bearing (new) - $14 from Summit
Clutch Alignment tool (new) - $5 from Summit
ARP Flywheel bolts (new) - $9 from Summit
Hurst shifter handle (new part #538-8022) - $80 from Summit
Hurst shifter knob (new) - $15 from eBay
Shifter boot from '69 w/Hurst shifter (new) - $15 from eBay
Shifter boot trim from '69 (new) - $12 from eBay
Clutch pedal (used) - $40 from Turlock swap meet
Clutch pedal pad (new) - $4 from Mustangs Plus
Brake pedal pad (new) - $10 from Mustangs Plus (will cut down auto pedal to work)
Clutch pedal bushings (new) - $1 from Mustangs Plus
Speedometer gear (new) - $10 from Mustangs Plus
Transmission Crossmember (new) - $80 from NE Performance Mustang
Hydraulic master, slave and bracket kit (new) - $236 from Dazecars.com

Total Cost: $1,113

For the leaf spring perches, you'll need two of these. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AFC-20232/ They need to be welded on, so unless you've got a welder, you're going to need to take it somewhere. If you've already got a 5-lug axle in the '66, why do you want to swap over the 8.8 out of the '92?

Suspension wise, NOTHING will transfer over from the '92 to the '66. They're not even remotely similar.

well put ^ [patriot]

and if its already 5lug, why use the 8.8? for the limited slip? if you use that then you going to have to convert it to 5 lug, by the time you do that, you couldof bought a used posi 3rd member for the 8" thats already in there.

and if your keeping efi, id recommend the RJM (i believe) efi 5.0 harness that plugs rite into the factory dash harness, much easier and cleaner. but thats another $575..

for the rearend swap you will have to have the shock mounts cut off an have the leaf spring perches welded on. one on each side. but of course you will need some traction bars to avoid the wheel hop!

if he wants the 8.8 he does. old 8 inch is more expensive than a 9inch to build, u may or may not get to get parts. the 5.0 rear end is way more versatile for disc gears and posi and overall strength
