i have more play in my steering wheel than usual like something got loose the car is all over the road now any thoughts

tie rods, steering rack bushings, steering coupler, bad steering shaft bearings...guess bad control arm bushings could do it too..
any more info on your set up?

stock 4 cyl hardware except for sn95 conversion and shocks cobra brakes bbk springs.....the handling was never as bad as it is now

grab the steering shaft and twist it, its located near the driver side header...maybe the rag joint where it connects to the rack and pinion went bad...i had the same issue a while back

replace with an upgraded steering shaft or oem replacements you can get at any parts store, theres only two different sized rag joints, just need the outside diameter

i just went on craigslist and found a OE steering shaft with a good rag joint on it still from foxbody in san jose...

+1 Easiest way to check is to jack up the front of the car and have someone get in and rock the wheel back and forth (just where the play is, not actually turning the wheels) and you should be able to see where the movement is under the car.

jacking your car up, climbing under it and having someone move the wheel back and forth so you can see what the problem is?
if the steering wheel moves and the wheels don't, something else is moving instead. look at the car with someone rocking your steering wheel back and forth and see what moves before your wheels do.
I'm not trying to be an ass at all, but you could have done that and found your problem in about the time it took you to inspect your rag joint......there are a lot of components that can wear out in a steering system, checking them one by one is a waste of time and honestly with ball joints and other stuff, you wont see that they have play in them till your steering system is moving them around....

i think its the tie rods now bump steer kit fix it? i have lowered springs in the front
