im looking at buying a built 5.0 but stuff on their is not smog legal so I was wondering if any members on here have been pulled over and had their hood popped open and engine checked out by a cop?

Within the last year or two ive heard about PD setting up a mobile dyno on two different divided streets here in antioch and setting up a "DUI check point" style smog test. But I've wondered how that could be legal. And you have to think about clueless cops like the one that pulled over my brother (JZTRK)who tried to say that his Holley systemax intake was a "illegal supercharger" WTF!!!

dam had the samething happen to me cop puled me over an tried to say my holleysystemax was a supercharger even tho i had a vortech v-1 he thought my supercharger was my altantor and my intake was the supercharger lmfao got a ticket but got it signed off

Just don't draw attention to yourself and you won't have anything to worry about.
I got sent to the Ref for a GT-40 tubular intake and an FPR. I said fuck it and sold the car.

There are sections from CVC 2800 through 2818 that can require a person to submit to such a search or face arrest. However, the burden would later be upon the officer to articulate to the court his reason to believe there is a danger to the public or the occupants of a vehicle beneath the hood. Absent consent or a warrant, the burden would be on the officer to articulate good cause to support the sear

I ran around with out a hood for the first year after my build and got pulled over by a s.p.d street racing enforcement officer he try'd to say that my systemax was an illegal supercharger and that I had an illegal fuel pressure regulator and he kept pointing at my fuel pressure gauge on my fuel rail I basicly told him to get sombody out there that knew what thay were talking about or he was going to have a fun time fighting in court about is incompatance and how thier {special unit}didnt know shit about c.a.r.b numbers and how to run them. He gave me some B.S about the unit bieng new and that thay were still learning about mustangs and then pulled out a little binder with pictures of hondas and asked if he could take a picture of my engine for reference I said no are you detaining me... NO have a nice night

The cop has to know cars...and you can tell when and when they cant. I met a few CHP guys that pulled me over in my 05 GT, even though I had long tubes, no cats, and a Borla axle back, tinted windows, no front plate, etc...they were just chopping it up saying it was a badass ride, one thought it was the new Bullit bc of the louvers and GT500 wing I have one it, but I told him it was a straight GT, ect. They didnt say anything, bc one of them had an 06 GT
Of course i get pulled over in the same stang in Davis, and the cop ripped me a new asshole.

ref tickets run anywhere between 400-600 depending on the city..and no the officers dont have to know shit about cars and they dont have to have a reason to search or pop your hood. if you read the law on a "suspected" modified car, just the appearance of being modified is reason for pulling you over and poping your hood. the ref ticket can be written to anyone because it states the officer does not know what they are looking at and cannot verify the car is smog legal, so they leave it up to the ref to decide. if your car passes ref, the ticket is free, except for ref fees (only a few bucks i think). just a pain in the ass to deal with for me...not worth even trying to make my car smog legal..so i just pay the fine. the tickets arnt on record, so no points or anything...just free money for the state

Got pulled over a couple of times in last year, but most of the times it was the police officer just wanting to check out the motor and bs a bit. Actually got lit up once while driving down the street, but he quickly turned it off and said.."Oh you again!".."Never mind!".
I think if you don't street race..drive decently normal and don't try to test the top end speed of your car then you won't have any issues getting pulled over (you cannot get pulled over on the track so keep it there:)

I was pulled over in Burlingame because my car was to loud . It was a all stock motor down to the air silencer . All i had was a catted x pipe and flows and I had just passed smog a few hours before getting pulled over . All my car had was bunch of suspension mods including a 4pt. Roll bar, that I'm sure caught their eye. They poped my hood and just saw an all stock motor . They didnt know what the hell they we're looking at .
The secret to getting away with shit is not to drive like a dumbass and not cause any attention .

I've been pulled over in my old fox an cop ask to pop my hood. Everything was legal so nothing he can do. But you do not have pop your hood unless there is proof there is illegal mods to the car. That's why they ask an you can say no.
