Kragen has rubber freezeplus, the expand the more you tighten them. They hold up better than the metal ones. I just finished putting one into a SN95.

well for a 20+ yr old car that may have been filled with nothing but water for a long period of time could have corroded the inside of the freeze plug..keep some coolant in there..i ran water for awhile in my old motor and my water jackets were rusty as hell

Well thats one smart-ass in the room...
Go with brass plugs, they last a lot longer than steel & cost only a little more. Dont bother with rubber ones, theyre a temporary fix

how are they only temp? (not sarcasm real question) i have one installed on my block and what i understood was that they arent temp but they no longer do the duty of a freeze plug. [ January 10, 2012, 11:53 AM: Message edited by: 88FOX ]

im not any law on the freeze plug deal but. i was always under the idea that those where for a temp fix to. yes they work, i havent seen one fail. but they are way easier to install in hard to get 2 places. brass is the best but all 3 will work if installed right.i dont think theres a wrong way to go. but if 1 goes due to rot, others are on the way.

Temporary? Interesting, he would need the motor out to reinstall another one properly, rubber a little easier and they last a long time. Ran one for over 70k before I took engine out
