First find TDC on the #1 piston

Use a degree wheel and piston stop to find true TDC. rotate in one direction take note of where it stops on degree wheel, now rotate in opposite direction, once again take note on degree wheel. now with both readings split the difference and that is true TDC

install your adjustable timing pointer on, point it to 0* on your balancer

It's NOT illegal. It's just frowned upon, like masturbating on an airplane.
