I cleaned mine out today with a battery wire brush and flat head. No solvents. Lots of caked on black stuff. So far no more check engine light, regained lost power(Big time) better idle. Still stumbles here and there but its less noticeable. the major loss in power and idle quality the main problems. It was definitely worth checking and cleaning.

If things are this dirty...also probably check and change the pcv valve. The spring gets weak and allows Alot of junk to enter the intake areas etc.....can even seem like you are burning oil. Don't forget to look at the pcv grommet that almost never gets changed!!!! It becomes rock hard and cannot seal around the pcv valve correctly. Should be soft and rubbery from original OEM.
