Topic: Maverick Disc Brake Coversion??

My buddy has a 73' Maverick with Drums all the way around. He is looking for some Disc brakes up front. My question is if we were to get used brakes off another car, which year and model car would they fit off of??
I have heard that some early mustangs had brakes that would fit, but to the best of my knowledge I believe the 65-67, 68-70, and 71-73 all have their differences.

Use a 1976 ford granada disk brake conversion, i got that on my 1967 mustang and it works fine.

Granada sounds sbout right for the parts. There may be some issue with the tye rod end fitment but I'm pretty sure you can mix and match parts to get the right fit. It's a common swap with the Mustangs.

Alright thanks for your help guys!! Does anybody know about any other cars and such that would be perfect for the conversion?? I just want some options so that we're not just looking for one specific car lol

Yep, I was gonna say the Granada discs. You can find the spindles at Pick N Pull from time to time and buy new rotors with rebuilt calipers for cheap.

I will have 13" cobra disc brake conversions for Mustang II spindles in a week. But if your spindles are like the 64-73 Mustangs, then I can't help you there yet.
I think the difference in the hubs is the size of the bearings inner diameter.
I'm using 64 drum hubs with Mustang II size inner and outer bearings on my Mustang II w/13" cobra disc conversion.

mustang steve sells all the conversion parts to add cobra brakes on mustang II spidals and cobra brakes on 5lug drum brakes aswell

I've done a junkyard swap before, and in my opinion, it's not worth the hassle. Really, the only usable parts are going to be the spindles. You'll most likely want to replace the calipers, rotors, bearings and master cylinder with new or rebuilt units. If you're going to buy all that stuff new anyway, might as well run an SN95 Cobra brake kit. Buy the adapters from Vintage Venom and buy new Cobra rotors and calipers. They're way better than the '68-'78 Ford disc brake setup.

MY BOY HAS A 71 COMET AND HE TOOK THE WHOLE REAR OFF A EXPLORE 8.8 31 SPLINE 3.73 DISCS, ONLY THING HE HAD TO DO WAS WELD THE BRACKETS 4 THE LEAF SPRINGS. CANT EREMEMBER WHAT HE USED 4 THRE FRONT. BUT THEY SHTOP GREAT

I think the explorer rearend is a bit wide without narrowing it.
I did this for my 60 Ranchero, but I shortened it on one side due to the offset of the pinion flange. Basically using 2 short axles. Bought new leaf spring perches from summitracing.com.

Back to the OP subject.
There are lots of vendors out there who sell brake systems for the 65-73 Mustangs. Parts are less expensive for those years and easier to find/replace.
As someone mentioned the 13" cobra brake conversion is available for the 65-73 drum spindles.
Trying to find parts at the junk yard is okay, but you'll end up replacing most with new.
Bought a Mustang II front suspension at the PnP for around $200, ended up buying new steering rack, upper and lower control arms, calipers and rotors.

Pm sent and it lined up perfect took him about 4 tries lol but if u look at the balancer the oil pan drive shaft all the way to the rear it lined it with the pinion
