Ok so here's the deal, I have a 95 cobra with a v2-s blower on it. I did heads, cam , intake on it and swappped injectors to 42#, I had a really hard time getting the car to run/idle. It turned out to be a tune related issue. Well the injectors dumped slot of fuel onto the motor washing the bearings and rings out (I believe). Not the car has little oil pressure when the car is warmed up (about 10psi at idle and 20 while driving.) and fine shaving of metal in the oil, like real small glitter. So I plan on getting a stock 87-91 short block and have it cleaned,honed, all new bearings and rings, balanced and stock pistons flycut. What rings and gaps would be good for this short block? Gonna have max 12psi and should I look into main girdle and valley girdle or are they a waste of money? Thanks!

-Clevite 77 H series Rod & Mains
-A ring set with a stainless top ring (stay away from plasma/moly rings on FI setups)
-Gap at .018 top/.020 bottom


should work good...

you already have ARP head bolts right? those are fine.

stud the mains, and girdle if you can afford it. i dont know much about the valley support thing...

i was asleep last night when you were trying to get ahold of me btw...

Yep got head studs, don't know if I will get the coated bearings kinda pricey, buy I am gonna polish the rods and have arp bolts in them. And yes gonna get the pistons flycut for a bigger cam

That will work good. Great advice.


With boost a non cast ductile ring is what you want. They are also harder and more forgiving to bore prep.

My advise is to run 20 on top and 25 on second ring to help with ring flutter. The bigger second ring cap is commonly done to prevent ring land lifting, but this is not true. It is actually for ppreventing ring flutter especially in a boosted application.

Also, remember, that studding the mains will require a line bore on the mains to be correct. Girdle is garbage. I have several broken ones to choose from and one non broken one I will be happy to give away.

The pistons being flycut is a headache unless they are already in the block and then it is probably best to take to AED but I dont know of the cost and I dont know if they are ok with cleaned up used pistons.

What heads and cam are you running? What is your piston to valve clearance?

The combo now is gt40x heads (64cc) ported to 1262 intake, 1415 exhuast,comp 914's, cam is .512/.512 224/234 114, systemax and 10psi. Would flycutting the pistons to run a bigger comp blower cam gonna be much difference? Also will be going down a pulley size to get 12psi and adding a nice meth setup

You can kill the block and make the power you need with the current camshaft so I really dont see the point in spending money flycutting the pistons and buying a custom camshaft but that is just my opinion, and those are like assholes you know.

ok so I decided to freshen up a stock forged piston short block for my car, what rings do I need for a blower app. Not looking to spend a lot of money on them (buget in mind). And also I'm gonna be running a comp 284h-r14 blower cam; .533/.544 224/230 114, now I'm running 1.94in 1.55ex valves. I'm getting the pistons flycut for in valve for sure, now am I gonna need the ex. Done as well?
