I have a friend that just installed performer heads 1.6 rr and a steeda cam on his sn95 302. the car starts, but the idle is rough, even for the cam he has. the cylinders also make a popping sound. the wierd thing is when you unplug the maf the idle steadies out, and the car becomes somewhat driveable but totally gutless. would anyone have any idea what the problem would be?

timing is good
fuel pump is good
fpr is good
fuel filter brand new
spark plugs are brand new

any help would be much appreciated

thanks mike,

if u unplug the MAF and it gets better then most likely it's bad. that's one way to check.

Just as a heads up 94-95 mustangs don't like largeer than stock cams and will give you some issues. If it ran ok before the hci swap you can probally rule out the maf. When you disconnect the maf the ecu goes into a pre determined fuel map (fail safe mode) since it can't read the maf to tell how much air flow is being drawn into the engine. You can try cleaning the maf and then retrying. It probally is the maf, But not all the times it is.
