hello guys i have a question. I can pass smog with the gt40p heads if not drilled for the thermactor passage? I have an idea if i plugg the crossover tube with a bolt or coin then gorilla glue it to the back off the heads(lol). I dont know. i know they burn better than the standard gt40 heads. thats why they didn't have the back off the heads drilled. i have a set with 1.9intake and 1.6 valves. but i can't find a shop that will drilled the heads for me. its getting very hard and annoying. any info would be great. thanks

I think I understand what you're trying to do here. First off if the heads aren't drilled for it then they dont have the required passage for it, so just drilling a hole in the back of the head would do you no good. I would bolt it up to the back of the head for looks( check and see if you can drill and tap the necessary bolt hole) gorilla glue here prolly isn't a good idea since it will get too hot. and have someone weld the hole closed in the tube, then make sure you have a good smog pump and hose going to your h-pipe. The purpose of the tube on the back of your heads and the one going to the h-pipe is that by injecting cold air from your smog pump into the exhaust it reacts with the exhaust and explodes, burning any unburned fuel in the exhaust. If you have good combustion and a working smog pump you shouldn't need the pipe in the back of the head except for looks. Get a pre test with this setup and see if it passes. I've often times eliminated the one going to the h-pipe and passed without problems.

If this is on a 94-95, yes, it will work. Anything earlier than this and you won't have a operational EGR; there isn't a sufficient crossover. Who told you GT-40p's were any better? Hate to say it, but unless it's a heavily-massaged set of heads, cast iron is cast iron. The work involved in swapping them is enough to make anyone save just a lil more for a set of decent aluminum heads. Just my opinion...

If the GT40Ps have 1.9 and 1.6 valves then someone added them because standard GT40Ps do have a larger intake valve (they share the same as a standard, GT40 head (1.84 versus 1.78 on E7s) however, they share the same exhaust valve (1.46) as an E7. Standard GT40s have 1.54.

Also if they are 1.90 and 1.60 (get a micrometer and make sure) they could possibly be GT40ps from Powerheads, if that is the case, then that is a very nice head for a good street beater into the 12s.

Also please have a look at this link, lots of good tech info on there, that I see you asking on here.

Stock type E7s and GT40/GT40Ps are going to measure from 60cc-63cc not much more/less.

he may be talking about intake I.E. 165/ 185's not sure, but it's more about cfm flow than size if you're after power, I would think afr 165's could outflow a lot of others 180 heads.

The flow sheets on that page are at 28 iches of water (noted at the bottom of the page) and standard volume unported heads, unless noted.
