So I had a rebuilt motor put in not long ago, I've had quite a few problems but now it's making a loud noise from starting and driving, it doesn't fade away or anything, it's not quite a knocking but a chattering but really loud, does anyone know what it could be? When the last motor went it knocked when it would first start but then would stop but it sounded more like someone was shooting off an automatic machine gun.

Here is a link to a short video where you can basically hear the noise.

Oh, I have no clue at this point but I'm soon to figure it all out, I had someone else put the motor in that they built for their son. I'm not much of a tech as you can tell I just know most of the outside of the motor which is just replacing crap. I'm trying to get a hold of it all, I guess this is a good way to figure it all out but yeah, the motor made this noise once when we fist took it for a test run because the guy forgot to install the dipstick and all the oil ran out of it and yeah but, we put oil in it and it ran fine after that. =/

I just want to see if anyone has any ideas of what it could be so that I know what I'm looking at having to buy at the parts store. =p

Bro u don't get it. U probably need to pull it apart. The only parts ur gonna have to buy if u still run it is a whole nother shortblock. That pinging noise I'm wayyyy to familiar with. The 3 times I've heard that I needed to replace my shortblock. Good luck man, get that thing checked out ASAP by a real mechanic, and if u ran it with no oil, no oil pressure the engine might be bad. Good luck.... [patriot]

you might be lucky and just need a new harmonic balancer. Mine made a ticking sound when the rubber finally gave way to old age and I replaced almost everything under the hood till I came to that. No one I'd talked to ever heard of the balancer make a ticking sound so it wasn't really looked at. Replaced it and it went away.

Was it constant? Seems that it's coming from the bottom of the motor or car more than anything, and yeah...It is more of a ticking

In my case it was a constant sound that I could hear more at idle only because the exaust of the car was to loud when gassing it. From what I remember the sound would speed up with the car the high the rpm. Again I think this is a rare occurance but it only takes a min. to crawl under the car and check.

I also remember determing the location of where the sound was coming from to be hard. It would sound like it was on one side but if you went the other side it would sound like it was somewhere else.

Best of luck man
