Can you or not use gear fluid in a t5? ive always used aod but some buddy's i know are using it. is it harmfull in anyway? thanks,eddie

you CAN use "motor oil" not gear oil.

and ive heard some people put gear fluid to stop the whinning since it is thicker? maybe im tripping.

If you put diff fluid into a T5 tranny, its days are numbered. Whoever told you to put diff fluid in the tranny to stop it from whining is a moron.
If there is "gear oil" in your T5 drain it and fill it with ATF like it was built to use. ![[burnout]](graemlins/burnout.gif)

yeah right motor oil it does good for about 15 miles because it seals up everything tight but then starts breaking down the seals. I would just put the correct fluid in it that the manuel says. Not auto tranny fluid. That is a entirely different type of fluid.

Auto trans fluid IS what they are supposed to have in them.Dexron III.

Dextron is GM. T5's require Mercon automatic transmission fluid.

I have two gallons of this stuff in my garage. Yes, I also put it in my T-5.
It is Dexron III/Mercon. It's a red fluid.
It says "Valvoline ATF" on the front and it also reads "recommended for GM, Ford, and certain Import vehicles".
Buy it, use it, and be happy.
