would advancing ur timing or getting it wrong make my car run a bit hotter than usual?cause my car always ran below the half way mark and today it started to get up to the half way mark.i got it back at 10 degrees now.was wondering if that would cause the car to run hotter.guy who did my timing says my car was running a bit eratic.so thats just another problem i have to find now??..lol.anyone knows thanks

How advanced was your timing? Was the car pinging? I have never heard of this causing the car to run hot but u never know.

Does it run cooler at 10 degrees?

oh dont know what it was at.and yes it was pinging till i put it back to 10.nope dont run any cooler at 10 stays at the half way point, but my car never got up that high.is it normal for the uppr rad hose to be real hard while its at normal temp.i opened the rad cap and it hissed a lil bit.does nt get past halfway mark.but never even got up that high before i messed with the timing.could the spout go bad?.Im clueless as what it could be.and have no idea why it would run eratic.maybe its the 10 pin connectors i replaced.since those things had a recall back in the day .i know if i wiggle those a bit teh car runs diff?? [Confused]

So you are worried about your temp hitting 50%? Why? You are in the middle of "NORMAL". What is so worrisome about that?

Short verison- IT'S OK.

well because my car never rAN THAT high, and im afraid the timing might not be on dead on.there can be no other reason the car should run hotter.seems like at running temp sitting still the cars temp goes down more then it is while im cruising it freeway etc.which i would think it should be cooler.i just have a feeling something is wrong.says its on 10 degrees now but is eratic as the guy said..is it normal for the uppr rad hose to be that hard?.and lifting the rad cap vent makin a hissing sound like its way hot in there?..I changed my TPS sensor last night, could that make it run bad and overheat at all??

I understand what u're saying about it being at half way is ok,But i drove it again tonight when the motor was cooled down.and it got up to half way again which it never got that high and it started to bog on me in 1st gear.doesnt ping at all just bogged till it got warm. But with the timing light it said it was at 10 degrees but something must still be wrong since its bogging.and the temp thing.anyoen else have any suggestion since i put the light on it and says its right at 10,and thats what it was at before i tried to advance it..

this wouldnt affect the temp of your car,but when you replaced the TPS what did you set the voltage at? This will cause your car to run erratic if not set properly.

Maybe you have a blown head gasket, whats the coolant level at, and how does the coolant look?

I know this is a stupid question but did you pull the plug out of the harness b/f checking the timing?

Do what haulinassmaro and two-gun said. Check TPS voltage and coolant level. Also, what thermostat are you running? When was the last time you did a tune up?

coolant looks fine its always at the top,i never set my tps voltage..lol..i didnt pull any plug out during the timing, only the spout.i dont think it could be a head gasket just started happening when i messed with the timing, and its a brand new motor and everything else on it.thermostat on it is whatever it came with, but im using a elec fan.

Nothing is wrong w/ temp or coolant system.

Set timing to 14-15* and enjoy it.
