8LD is speed density, that actually makes your car faster than a stock MAF computer car (A9L, etc)
speed density does not react well to mods that change the vacume though, so if you recently put a new cam in that would be your problem.
you may also have a vacume leak, that would make your car run lean.
and how do you know its running lean when warmed up? Did you check the plugs?
things I'd check: vacume leaks ECT/ACT sensors (coolant temp) TPS, EGR, O2 sensors How old is the thermostat? Might be time to put a new 195* stat in there.

my motor has new 10 to 1 compression pistons, E7TE heads ported and polished, E-cam, roller rockers, edelbrock intake, 70mm throttle body, 75mm Pro M mass air meter calibrated to the 30 pound Ford Racing injectors. If that computer is a speed density computer than why is it in my car if my car is set up as a mass-air?

I have an extra A9S I believe, if you want to try it out and see if it helps, your welcome to. Let me know.
In case you don't know, Healdsburg is about 30 minutes from Petaluma... [ December 12, 2005, 08:54 PM: Message edited by: silverLX ]

I think the glaring question is why do you have a SD computer for a MAF setup?

If it actually is a speed density computer, its in an 88 California car with factory mass air for some reason. He bought the car bone stock and it ran perfect until he put the new motor in. If it was the wrong computer, it would have ran like shit before. I am going to give him a hand and hopefully figure it out.

i think that is a great question. The guy i bought the car from (the origal owner) said that he never did anything to the computer or wiring, the car was all stock when i bought it. The weird thing is that my car is an 88 California, the first year of mass-air. Could that have anything to do with it?

What version 8LD is it? There is more than one. If this is a Cali car, it is version 2...due to the MAF. If it just started with the engine change, I'd look at the obvious...
Fuel Pressure and MAF calibration.

i have a pro M mass air calibrated for 30 pound injectors, and i have ford racing 30 pounds injectors. The car revs out at 5000 rpms at 40 psi fuel pressure, but when i bump it up to 50 psi the motor pulls hard to its rev limiter of 6200, but i shift at 6000.

You're setting the fuel pressure with the vac disconnected and plugged, right?
