Topic: LT Header opinions?

I've spent far too much money on my exhaust systems of the past. With this new LT setup that I’m planning on buying, I'll be upwards of 2k that I've spent on different exhaust setups. Most were just early experiments and I’m ok with that, but my most recent is a LT Jet hot setup with a Bassani o/r X pipe from my original setup that I had fabricated to go with the long tubes. That was 1100+ when it was all said and done. Problem is my current long tubes are a slip fit 2 part setup on the driver’s side so I can't seem to get rid of exhaust leaks. Also, that header is also a 2 part head flange and 2 of my head bolts have been stripped out, so I need a solid head flange to ensure I get good seal there. When you add that all together, you end up getting messed up A/F ratios because that particular O2 sensor reads bogus values, etc. etc. blah blah blah.
Can I get some opinions on various LT setups? Who makes the best fitting setup with a good heat coating, and have solid head flanges? Which headers use stock head studs? (which would help my stripped out bolt problem immensely).
I understand these are a lot of questions, but I need to make one final purchase in exhaust and end all my problems, because I have tried to eliminate my issues with my current system over 6 times. Each time involved removing the header, so you can imagine what a bitch this has been. [ September 14, 2005, 06:11 PM: Message edited by: BlacksheepMod50 ]

I beleive that the Jet Hot headers are really just a hooker header that Jet Hot re-sells coated. I've looked at the pictures of the Hooker ones, and they look like the same setup I have. I also have a problem with those headers rubbing on my steering shaft. GRRR Might be because I have an aftermarket K member
These are what I have:

Except they are the biggest POS I've ever bought! GRRR. They didn't even send me the right bolts, they can't use stock head studs, and the slip fit is an exhaust leak headache. They're just nicely polished peices of sh*t

Well when I spoke with Jet Hot they say its a hooker setup they use. And I do know for a fact that the header leaks and i do know for a fact that I wasn't even sent the right bolts, so I had to travel down to my local ACE hardware to find ones which fit. Chalk that up to whatever conclusion you want to draw, but the headers aren't workin' for me. Hey - While Im at it: These headers are for sale as soon as I swap them out. I have the same headers and they sent me the wrong bolts also. But I called them and they sent out the right ones. As far as leaking goes I just squirted some high temp RTV in the slip fits and that took care of any leaking. If I were you I would look at fixing your headers rather then spending more money replacing them. Your going to have a hard time finding Headers that put out the numbers that these do and not to mention the ease of taking the tranny out with the slip fits. Jet Hot Headers are OEM'ed Hooker Headers.

I would agree with Marek. Go with Kooks or Bassani. We have NEVER had ANY fitment OR ANY other issuses with Bassani Products.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think Im going to try to fix these headers one last time, simply because I dont feel like spending 1,000+ on a new setup right now. If that fails, I will try the Bassani setup... or push my car off a cliff.

First of all, what K-member are you running?
An aftermarket K-member should give you MORE LT header access when compared to a stock one? Have you looked at Manual Steering racks/Offset rack bushings to give you more room? What about different motor mounts?
Re-tap those holes, Buy some ARP bolts or Grade 8 lockers, and use those existing headers. It's a lot cheaper and they look nice already.
Jet Hot = Coating, Not headers.

Running D&D K Member. And yes - the K member does give better header clearance, however, it changes the geometry of the steering rack's shaft slightly. I did not use the offset bushings because the stock shaft woudl rub against the K member. I have since replaced my steering shaft to one which would not rub, however have not gotten around to pulling my rack off and swapping out the bushings.
Thanks for the tip about the ARP bolts. I'll look into them. As for the tapping, they have already been tapped, but aluminum is soft and since the headers can't use studs and there is minimal space to get the bolt into the head. The bolts you have to use end up being short and dont grab much thread in the head, so when you crank down on the bolt, you'll just end up making the bolt hole entirely useless because you strip all the treads right out of it. I ahven't gotten that far yet because I could see where that whole deal was going if I kept trying to tighten it - so I backed out of that quickly.
Also, as far as Jet Hot being a coating - I'm very aware, however they directly re-sell a header with their coatings, so you can buy straight from them. This should be clear in my messages above [ September 15, 2005, 03:40 PM: Message edited by: BlacksheepMod50 ]
