OK- put it in context, carbed and restricted by head choice. I was impressed,
"Specs are: 4.020 bore,2.87 stroke

stepped headers 1.5,1.5/8,1.3/4,23in long
ultralight billet Crower crank
four 48IDA's Weber carburetors,etc...
Flat tappet,265 IN/264EX @.050,lobeseparation 107.0 at 105intake centerline

So where is the non old tech you speak of?
Do you know if they're limited to stock rockers, or just stock style? For the GT 350, it says stock style, non roller rockers. Ken had a few sets machined out of some metal that has a high natural lubricity.

Jim, are you sure this isn't a stroker based on a Cleveland crank? 5.5 inch rods are usually used to make a 355 inch engine. I have a hard time believing that a resticted head, near stock displacement 289 can make numbers like that. It's a little easier to believe with some compression and a few more cubes.

We just did a 331 stroker with AFR 185s W/ valve job, and a custom cam, victor jr intake, Davinci Race carb, 10.5 compression and professionally tuned on a engine dyno and it only made 430hp. We though that those were high numbers. Where did you get the motor dynoed.

4.020 diameter bore x 2.87 stroke x pi x 8 = 289.9 ci.

it is also a very high dollar engine. Titanium rods The 331 you just built probably was cheaper than the crank and rods LOL

I can't because I am too cheap to subscribe...
Jim, I already know the math to find CID, but I question the rod length and piston pin placement. To add at least .351" to that rod length (stock 289) or .416" for a 302 rod would put the pin pretty damn high up on the piston. I would like to see the ring package used. The comp ratio of 12.5 to 1 helps the HP get up to where it is. The heads can produce some good numbers if ported correctly. I have a set of early hipo heads that were ported by Joe Mondello that would make some good numbers if put on the right short block. I am not doubting that the guy made the numbers, I am just a subscriber in the "seeing is believing" philosophy.

Great numbers, are those the original original heads, or the GT40 heads that were cast a few years ago from the original molds( or whatever they use for that stuff). I know that T.O.E. Racing Engines is the partial owner of the molds for those heads.
That hot little motor probably set you back at least 25k. Have fun! [ November 12, 2004, 12:22 AM: Message edited by: phildog ]
