I've seen it done, including the dash. (I had an 86 new, so I paid attention to what others did..)
The dash was reportedly a b*tch....
The shell of the car is the same, so most stuff will interchange.

I just finished gettin rid of that ugly red interior in my 86 gt convert, put in black 92 door panels, rear seats, kick panels, etc. everything fit fine, but I had to trim off a bit from the top(weatherstrip part) of the door panels to get them to clear the mirror control, also spent a whole day doin the wiring changeover to 92 window and lock controls. turned out great
