Okay...quick question. Driving the Mustang yesterday. I was paying close attention to the gauges (I find myself doing that alot). Anyway, my oil pressure registered in the normal region (right in the center of the gauge) while driving along. On my way home, I noticed it would drop to 0 (as in the red) when I would come to a stop and let the engine idle in neutral. I assume this is not a good sign [Mad] .

Anyway, I revved engine in neutral to make sure the pressure would not drop to 0. When revving, it would rebound to normal (in the middle of the gauge). I must admit that the pressure fell to 0 two to three times as I limped home. But it didn't hit 0 for any more than 1-2 seconds on each occasion. In any case, there was plenty of oil in the engine at the time.

I am wondering if this is the oil pump or possibly something else. I am also wondering if I may have severely damaged my engine.

Thanks for your help.

The only real way to know is to hook a mechanical oil pressure gauge up to the motor and run the line into the car so you can watch it while you drive. The stock gauge works somewhat but you need #'s not between this letter and this letter to tell whats happening. You'll also want a more accurate reading then the stock electric gauge will tell ya.

kinda sounds like the oil sender sensor
is going out.8 bucks at kragen
dont drive till you see the pressure is up though!
you might have broke the drive shaft on the pump if the gauge read below the red.i mean below the red! [Frown]

That is not possible with what he has explained.

My BET is that your motor needs to be re-built.
