Shit scared the f*k outta me.. Smelt something burnt so i opened the hood and noticed the wire that connects to the alternator on the top of it was smellin like burnt oil and noticed dark brown liquid coming out if the connection ..

What can this be? Wire itself? Or the alternator?

Thanks
David

Your alternator could be overcharging....

Go to your local parts store first thing and get your alt and battery tested...I said alt and battery because if your alt is over charging it probably damaged your battery too...

You should also replace the wiring or at the very least inspect where it was burnt. Could be that maybe the coating on the wire wore through somewhere and was touching metal. Also the connector itself going into the alternator. If one of the terminals is connected/not connected or sometimes making a connection and sometimes not this could be an issue. The alt.wiring on fox bodies is known to have issues. Another think to look at is if you upgraded to a higher output alternator did you also splice in a new bigger gauge connector with harness. Sometimes if you don't do this and your putting out more juice the stock gauge leads can't handle the extra load.

You want to know the cheap easy fix. Take the stock alternator out. Buy yourself a one wire powermaster high output alternator from summit. Tape up the stock wires and run the one 4 gauge lead back to the distribution block. The 4 gauge lead comes in the alternator kit. Otherwise your looking at re-wiring the stock stuff. Which can be done but it's a pain. As easy as bolting in the new alternator and running one lead verses dealing with brown milky fried shit.

I'll throw a [Whoo Whooooo!] for Powermaster one wires. Sounds like you had almost had happen what happened to me. My stock alternator wires caught on fire, sounds like this almost happened to you, switched the 1 wire 140 amp powermaster and it runs awesome [patriot]

Thats the one. I like the black the best. That ones made specifically for the mustang. You might be able to find another brand in the standard alum finish. Don't know for sure
