got the new pump in. Went to fire it up and it sounded like it was gonna turn over a few times, but still failing to start. How long/many times should it take before it should start up?

[Confused]
should fire on first try? did it ever start since the new pump went in?

maybe the fuel system needs to be primed. Key it on 3 times and than it should fire

before i had everything buttoned back up i tried to fire it up real quick(i did have the fuel line off still) and it sounded like it was gonna take off, so then i put everything back together, checked the vacuum/gas line made sure they were connected and then tried to fire it up, sputtered like it was gonna start now wont fire up, atleast i can hear the pump turn on.

What kind of pump is it? You have to shim the top feed line with an aftermarket pump and modify the fuel bucket top to make it fit properly. Otherwise fuel sprays outside of the line and back into the bucket. That sounds like whats happening to me.

Yep, did you shim the feed line with spacers and also modify the bucket? This pump is taller than the stock one

Heres a link to give you the basic idea. In this page they don't shim up the top feed line which needs to take place. Usually about an 1/8 of an inch achieved with washers. This aligns the top feed line so that it sits properly. You'll also need longer self tapping screws to make up for the height difference with the spacers. Any hardware store should have
