I think the best way to do this, is replace the mufflers with Magnaflow ones. Magnas have a straight through pipe, resulting with approx. 15hp gains and a deeper exhaust sound. Then again, any exhaust modification from OEM is no longer street legal in California.

if volume is what he wants, then get the biggest bullet mufflers you can find, and use turndowns.

I have a cutout on my Camaro just ahead of the muffler. I drive with it open sometimes (like now) but, with the cats ahead of it, it really isn't that much louder than my Flowmaster. Somewhat deeper though. Now, you can't hear yourself think with the cutouts open on either of the Mustangs, but they are right behind the collecters on both cars and it's like running open headers. The cam lope comes through really clearly. The convertible produces some really excellent sounds running unplugged at Sacramento.

I test drove a customers car at on old job after we serviced it...It was a 95GT, so I was checking it out...He had some nice and costly mods on it, but for some reason had a stock H-pipe and a "no muffler/straight pipe" cat back....
All I could think of when I got on it was how good my 94 GT sounded and how much the customers car sounded like the GENERAL LEE!!!!!!...For all the Dukes of Hazzard fans, they ran Glass packs on most of the 69 Chargers....

for my first 'mod' on my coupe back in 96, i bought the cut-outs and installed them after my cats. it sounded good to a kid in high school, but after i started really learning about mustangs, i put an actual exhaust on. now when i hear a mustang with cut-outs, it just annoy's me.

That's how I get my car smogged. Stock four cat h-pipe with no mufflers.
Afterwards it back to the off road x and one chamber mufflers.

Thats excactly what the CHP pig told me the other night. Since he told me stock or OEM replacement I wonder if I should roll up with glasspacks instead of Flowmasters?

Any exhaust modification after the cats is 100% legal in CA, as long as the noise level is under 95dB when the dB meter is placed 20" from the exhaust tip, and the engine speed is at 50% of redline.

What's he gonna do? The law is the law. If he says that any exhaust mods are illegal, he's flat out wrong.
