Just finished installing rear discs on my '90 GT. The car has been sitting for a couple of months while I acquired all of the parts and motivation to do it. Got it finished last night but the battery was dead. Jump started it off of the Explorer. Washed it this morning thinking I'd make it to the get together tomorrow. Again the battery was dead. Jumped it and took it out to charge the battery. Shut it off once and it fired right back up. Just now got it home, shut it off and after about 5 minutes went to start it up again. It just went click and then died completely. I mean the interior light does not come on, nothing at all happens when I turn the key.
Checked battery voltage and it is just above 12 volts. Checked the inline fuse that I installed for my 3G alternator and it is fine. I don't know where else to look. Battery has juice but it just ends there. Nothing in the car works. Throw some suggestions at me please! Thanks,

Could be that your battery measures 12 volts when it isn't under load. Under load the battery could be dead. Try having someone crank the motor while you hold a meter on the battery. Or get it load tested at a shop.

Another quick check you might want to try is to swap out the battery in your Explorer if it will fit in the mustang tray and see if you have the same results. With the car sitting for a couple months the battery is most likely really drained and needing some serious charge time or the cells in the battery lost their ability to hold a charge in the amount of time the car was down

Thanks! I had the wife crank it while I checked voltage. As soon as she turned the key it went from 12.2V to nothing. I am going to throw a trickle charger on it and see if I can get it to hold a charge. Thanks again!

Exactly...If the voltage droped from 12volts to nothing under load, then the battery is toast...

just remember that voltage and current are different. the voltage is how much power is being pushed; the current is how strong that power is being pushed.
