I just bought an 88 GT.

A trim, h/c/i. stock driveshaft, 3:08's

When I acclerate after 2nd, into 3rd the shifter vibrates.
I was told it could be a driveshaft, or something in the rear end?

When i put the car on a jack today, the rear tires if you pull on them they make a kinda clunking noise and move a tiny tiny bit. is that normal??

Any advice is greatly appreciated! I would love to actually floor it in this thing! [patriot]

did u try tightening the lug nuts?

my old car vibrate a lot, so i change the stock drive shaft for a aluminum one and it stop after that...good luck... [patriot]

Tomorrow I'll be checking U joints and transmission mount, But i think it's something to do with the rear end...

Does the car still vibrate if its in neutral at around 70mph?....

With the stock gears, my guess would be the driveshaft...

.....Does the car have a rear disc brake conversion?....

Drum rear, And it does make the vibration when going about 70+ when in neutral..

I believe that is completely normal.

I still think it is either the tranny mount or the driveshaft. I would toss in an aluminum driveshaft no matter what. That will help if not solve the problem.

When I drove the car home from Pacifica, the vibration wasn't near as bad when it was in neutral.

Goodluck with the problem. Hope you get it solved real soon and get the cats off and enjoy the 380 (+ -) that it will put to the wheels!

Well today I'll check U joints, I was going to put a n aluminum driveshaft in but Sacramento Mustang closed right when I got off work yesterday, then today they're closed because it's sunday..
But hopefully it'll solve the problem, Thanks for the info! [patriot]

Also check motor mounts. My mounts were cracked, wich over time made the motor/tranny shift on their mounts, making the drivetrain vibrate in the same way around 70mph. Aluminum d/s is good idea too.

if it does it in neutral then its your drive shaft
i gets worse after a while.it'll start clunking very bad soon when coming to stops.
i had this prob with my 89 gt.replace it with a stock or alum.
if you don't power shift i get the stock shaft [Wink]

its three times cheaper. [Wink]

I bought an overpriced one from sac mustang.... Works great now!!

So did my speedo cable.. [Roll Eyes]
