The bolts sheared off and the crank pulley fell off as I was pulling it in the garage to pull the motor today. WTF??? Anyone ever heard of this before? The knocking sound I posted a question about last week went away with the pulley falling off. Weird!

Did just the crank pulley fall off or did the harmonic balancer fall off too?

Just the pulley. Bolts are sheared flush with the damper. It was quite the racket.

I would guess the crank pulley bolts didn't have enough engagement into the balancer. Or there were not lock washers on the bolts? [ February 08, 2004, 10:19 PM: Message edited by: mtbaughs ]

I changed the balancer a year ago when the old one separated, but when I put it back together I tightened the bolts good and they had lock washers.
