My friends 92 GT auto just decided to quit starting all of the sudden. I guess he was just driving it around one day, shut it off, went to get back in it and leave and nothing. All the accesories come on and work, but after that, nothing. You can start the car manually by jumping the solenoid on the fender and then it runs fine.
I'm not the first party involved in the fixing of the car, so here is what has been done in an attemtp to fix it so far....
new solenoid new ignition switch neutral safetly switch
Anyone have any ideas? I don't have the time to think right now sorry, other wise I would trouble shoot it myself. Thanks

I would go with the neutral saftey switch first. For some reason, I've had a string of them go bad lately.

What about the switch that doesn't let the starter turn on unless the clutch is pushed in?

Its an auto... but i wouldve said the same had it been a stick. As far as the alarm, i would make sure its been fully removed, i have had issues in the past with a kill switch still wired in but hidden. The car starts, if jumped, and runs.. and you've replaced the ignition switch, NS switch, and solinoid... points me to either a wiring issue.. or the alarm. Trace your wires from the ignition switch and do voltage drop tests... [ January 01, 2004, 08:55 PM: Message edited by: RTCamaroSS ]

Or how about jut the starter period. Also on autos there is a sensor that won't let you start the car unless the brake is pushed in, I'd check there. I also bought two bad solenoids from Kragen before I got a good one, I'd check there too

Had a similar problem with an Auto once.
The shifter linkage was a little loose & it would not register that it was in nuetral or park. Once adjusted & tightened everything was cool.

This was my thought as well.
I've experienced this with many cars. At times the car will not register that it is in park or neutral (obviously the only two positions that will allow the vehicle to start).
Try holding the shifter forward while in park, to help it come closer to the park gear....if this makes no difference, I'd HIGHLY suggest re adjusting the linkage and going from there.
