I have my check engine light on because of the tranny swap I did,,I've been told that when you have the check engine light on, the timing on your car is set down by the computer, how tru is this? or how does it afect on your car's performance?

What tranny swap did you do? What year stang? As far as losing performance due to the check engine light--- it all depends on what error code you have. For example, if the light is on because of a bad MAF, yes performance is hurt, but not if the light is on due to a stuck EGR valve.
