Whad up!...Welcome to californiafords.com!...

I think I was that guy that came up to you at Ohlone, right?....

Well like I was saying a set of gear is about $400 for parts and install....I recommend the Ford Motorsport gears($179)...You can expect around 3-4 tenths in the quarter with a jump from 2.73's(stock) to 3.73's....Rear end specialties in Santa Clara are pretty good to have install them...

Then I recommend under drive pullies...I put ASP pullies on my car and I think it was the best bang for buck that I put on the car..They are around $90 and worth about 15-18 hp..(7-10rwhp)

Finally with the Flowmasters installed I got an "off-road H-pipe" for my B-day...I gained 3 tenths in the quarter mile with the "off-road H pipe"...

That should get you started...Dont forget the first mod everyone does and should do, and thats a K&N air filter [Wink] ...

Buy a chevy? hehe.. just fuckin with ya... But seriously, id agree with the previous... underdrive pulleys help out alot, and getting rid of the chain of cats on the mustangs helps alot too. A cold air intake and exhaust would help too, if you dont already have it... once you have the basic bolt ons down... we can move on to better things, such as gears, nitrous, sticky tires and good clutch [Wink] Since you ford boys dont seem to have issues with your rears, you can run sticky tires with no problems....

Yeah, when I drive my Stang I ALWAYS park in a corner spot....

Underdrive pulley's replace the stock pulley's on the front of the engine...You normally buy the kits with 3 pulley's.(the alternator, water pump and crank).....Basically by increasing or decreasing certain pulley's on an engine, it makes it eaiser to turn those certain pulley's...So, by making it easier to turn the pulley's on your engine, you gain/free up horse power....

Catylitic converters(cats) on a car can restrict your exhaust flow out of the engine....Getting rid of the cats you will get an increase in flow, giving you more horse power...

Changing the gears on a Mustang or any car is like changing the gears on your 21 speed mountain bike...The lower ones make it easy to accelerate but you have a lower top speed....Unfortunately the stock gears on a Mustang are designed more for gas miledge than performance...

right on! yeah.. shit ever since i got the stang.. i see all these new marks.. im thinking its the rocks that my car picks up.. or other shit on the road..okay..really though i am thinking about putting these pulleys on.also im thinking about putting them "off-road flows"? off road... maybe its some term.. well first that intake then flows... o yeah if i were just to put flows and intake how much u think i would be pulling.? cause i kinda wanna stay close to stock. but have more power. i want that feel where my car is pushing me right in my seat and im sorry.. its not..kinda want alittle more pull...and black945.0 how much did u get ur tints for your stang.? are u gonna be on campus tomorrow.?

Sorry My last final was on Monday, so I wont be at class...

Its not "off-road flows"...Flowmasters and an off-road pipe are different....Buy a 2.5" Flowmaster cat back, meaning from your "cat"-ylitic h pipe to the back of the car(tips)....An off road H-pipe is called "off road" becuase its illegal to drive a car on the road without "cats"...

I suggest going to the store and buying a Mustang mag, like "Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords" or "5.0 and Super Fords"....

My window tint was done by Rocky Mountain Window Tint in Fremont...

what kind of gas are you using? I always use 91 nothing less. is it a ping noise or ticking noise? If its a ping noise then I would look into adjusting your timing and fuel octane. If its a ticking then yeah it sounds like an exhaust leak. I know a lot about exhaust leaks just don't know as much about fixing it :-)

I am so new to mustangs too so what I have been doing is popin my hood alot getting familiar with the car. Do work on your own whenever possible....even crawl under and around it to check out all the things people are talking about on the board. Thats just what helps me.

Also your lucky to have met black 94 5.0 I always take his advise and wouldn't do anything to my car that he wouldn't do to his. He never tells me what I should or shouldn't do, he just says what "he" would do and that works for me.

I have learned a ton of information from the board, I don't post as much but read a lot. And yeah get a couple mustang magazines, go to some of the boards cruzes and shows too. Welcome to the board. [patriot]

well. i just posted a reply but you bet me to it...the sound in my eninge sounds more like.. ticking..then pining...and the gas i use is 91 Chevron with Techron...man that sounds cool. when i say that... i heard that if i were to get 76... my engine's performance would inprove..is that correct.?well i think ill still stick with chevron...

im glad i met black945.0 cause if i wouldnt. i would notknow nothing about my mustang. i am learning so much in here and its soo helpful.

anyways.. is this leak bad?

yeah it can't be good for the car, how long have you owned it, have you done an oil, fuel, fuel filter and spark change. sounds dumb but my car will tick some when the oil is low. wanna hear something else dumb.......i've had about 9 cars since I was 17 (26 now) and just the other day I learned that the oil gauge in the car is oil "pressure" not "level". No wonder I went through so many cars!!

in my opinion your safe with 76 or chevron. I don't get gas anywhere but cheveron, I used to be stuck on 76 but one of the pumps ripped me off one day so whatever.

ticking is better than pinging but still not good. it could be from a number of places but shouldn't be to difficult to locate or fix. I had a bad exhaust leak when I installed my off road h pipe. took me some time but I finally got the kinks out. I ended up replacing a couple other parts such as o2 sensors, and header gaskets just to be on the safe side.

Totally off the subject but how hard is it to get fourth gear scratch...?

Hey thanx for the props guys!....

Siri95~~~Sounds just like an exhaust leak...You could take it to an exhaust shop and get it fixed or you could do it yourself.....If you take it to an exhuast shop I'd make sure they know about Mustangs...Apex in Santa Clara, I'm sure could fix the leak no problem....

If you do it yourself you need to know where the leak is comming from....Pop the hood and see if you can pin point where its comming from....Its most likely comming from the header gasket...You might be able to feel a little air comming out in between the engine and the header flange where the leak is...Do you have stock headers?....You can replace the header gasket with a better gasket (like Felpro) and re-seal the header so it doenst leak...You might also want to check and make sure that the bolts from your H-pipe to your headers are tight...

Good luck! [patriot]

If it is an exhaust leak, then the bad part would be determined by where the leak is. If it is before your O2 sensor, then that is bad because you are either getting outside air, or your O2 is not reading all it should. If after the O2, its still bad because when you lift, then colder air could come back in, but its not as bad. Either way you should get it fixed. Plus hey just sound bad and are annoying.

1)Fix the exhaust leak. 2)Bump your timing to 14 degrees, but back off if it starts to ping under load. This is easy, free, and you'll feel the difference. 3)Get some gears. 4)If you have an AODE, get a shift kit.
