use a hammer to break loose the tie rod end from the spindle. then loosen the nut on the inside of the tie-rod then the tie rod can spin off.

Rent or buy a pickle fork. Makes the job much easier and you won't screw up the threads on the tie rod end.

yes, take the cotter pin and nut off. then hammer it straight down. it usually takes a couple solid hits. if that doesnt work, try whacking the spindle on the side to loosen it. [ April 22, 2003, 11:43 AM: Message edited by: HungryHippo ]

Thats the worst thing you could even think of doing. If you hammer on that with or without a nut on the end of it IT WILL FUCK THE THREADS UP. YOU WONT BE ABLE TO USE THEM AGAIN

eh, no you wont. its the same principle as using a tie rod puller, but in this case you are pushing. the threaded end of the tie rod is smaller than the hole in the spindle so there is no chance of any damage. i use to rent a puller everytime i lowered someone's car, but i got tired of it and the hammer is much easier to use. i have used a fork too and all i did was ruin the boot on the tie rod.
