Just wondering, if i should look for a lower and upper intake from an explorer, or should i just go with an aftermarket intake?? If i plan to supercharge my stang, will an explorer intake be good enough?? How much hp will an explorer intake gain about?? [Confused]

IMHO, probably not worth it for one reason:

You'll swap it out soon after you get the blower, and on a N/A car it will give you around 5-10 HP, and will be a hassle to smog.

Pick up a nice edelbrock performer used for $250 to $300 and that will be smoggable, and offers more gains in any combo I can think of.

I hate doing things "twice" if you know what I mean.

I slapped an explorer intake on my otherwise stock longblock 5.0 and picked up almost exactly 1 mph in the traps, indicating something like 8 HP gain.

There was a car around here with a Keith Craft 351, an S-trim, edelbrock victor junior ( I think) stage II heads, running 11.1s @ 122 or so, easily 500+ rwhp.

Tough to do on a 302/306, Just my humble opinion. Especially if it's a stock block and you expect it to last...

In my humble progressive thinking, I believe the same 351 combo with a 302 short block would make almost the same RWHP.

500 rwhp combo?

Healthy stock bottem end!

270 cfm aluminum heads

Intake that flows better than the intake port of the heads. The Holly should work nice.

50 lbs injectors and MAF

sumped tank and Aero motive fuel pump

Pick your favorite cam. I like the TFS stage 2.

The Vortech S trim at 13-14 psi since its been proven thousands of time over and over.

Powerpipe for the Vortech.

A good balancer.

1 3/4" headers or shoot maybe even 1 7/8".

don't forget to add 'stout block' to that combo, I wouldn't feel comfortable with a steady ~500 rwhp in a stock block.

B50 sportsman 302 or A4 or R302 blocks or even a dart but please not a stock shortblock, that's why I think a 351 is a good idea at the 500 rwhp combo, you can still use a good stock junkyard block and survive in the 500-600 rwhp area all day, no need for one of those expensive blocks...

Then again I hear of guys making 600 ish to the wheels and surving a racing season on the stock bottom end so I guess 500 is doable, but still on the dangerous end of things...
