but could it be something else.... injector tick or something... i have a 1991 mustang 4 cylinder LX and when going up hill, the engine i think pings hella bad... it is at stock timing, about 10* or so BTDC. I put 91 octane in it, even pings on 110 race gas... i put some of that in there to see if it would stop but it still does it...if it was a clogged fuel filter it would run like crap right??? this thing runs perfect just pings.... and i know that cant be good for it... it usually runs at about 170 or so on the temp. so i know it isnt to hot either... anyone have any ideas??? thanks

Isn't your 4 cyl mustang hard to start on 110 octane? Any codes from the computer? A dirty fuel filter will only reveal itself at higher RPM's/loads where the extra fuel is needed.

Well the problem is you have a 4 cyl.Somewhere it tells you if you that if you have a problem with it to replace it with a V-8. [Big Grin]

But seriously every 4 cyl Mustang I have had,although they have all been turbo SVO's have had the pinging problem uphill.Welcome to a shitty design of an engine with lil to NO torgue that for some reason sucks under a load therfore sucks ass uphill.

BTW that race gas you used was it leaded or unleaded?

oh ok cool, maybe ill have to install that small block in there to getrid of that.... and a matt it was leaded... i know i shouldnt have, but shit it was free after all... poor O2 sensor and Catalitic convertor... oh well, if they go out i guess i will HAVE to install it.... hahaha
