Figured some of you guys could use some of this info to make your slicks last longer. Rotate your slicks after every run. It really does help. Another things. Long burnouts do NOT tear up the tires. When you do that, your just hydroplaning. You tear tires up when you sit in the water and spin them. After you spin them for a half second or so, the spot they are sitting on is dry and getting hot. It also has the rubber you just laid down tearing up the rubber that's still on the tire.
Tip #2 Track conditions Usually you see alot of guys taking out heat guns and such to see the temp of the track. But if it's 90 degrees or so outside and the sun is beating down on the track, it's probably pretty hot. When i walk on the track i just want to see if the track is peeling up when it's hot. If that's the case, then you know the track isn't very good. If it's cool and not peeling up the track should be pretty good. But track conditions for the most part, have to do with how hot is is. Some of them are rough and some are smooth, but a rough track is a whole lot rougher when it's hot and conversely, it's smoother when it's cool. Why you ask?? I'll tell you why. On a rough race track when you hit a bump on a hot day it magnifies the problem. For instance, if the track is hot and crappy then the rough part of it is even going to be rougher , which will make the tire break loose quicker. Then your either spinning or shaking the tires, and by the time you hit the next bump, your car will get completly out of line. This is why at older racetracks, you'll see cars make a violent move towards the middle of the track. So you have to go out and take a look before every run to know what to expect. This will give you a good idea of where you should be and what you should be doing on the track. It also tells you how aggressive you can be. At times you need to be more aggressive with a tricky track-i mean get it up on the tires really fast so you can sort of drive through the deal. I just hope that some of this info helped you guys. Sorry for making it so long.

cool, but why isn't a stick track better ("pulling up"), doesn't that mean VHT is in force? you know, kind of like walking around in a movie theater, major traction

When a track is pulling up..it usually means that any type of traction adder has been sprayed on the track such as you said VHT is pulling good laid rubber out of the track making it slippery.

Thanks for the tips. They help out a lot. If you have any other tips, can you put them up here? It's always good to try to learn as much as possible about racing at rhe track. So doing burnouts in the water tears slicks up, but not where it's dry?

Yeah you would think that it would be the opposite brian but it's not. Becasue when you do it in the water it's get's dry extremely quick and has extra rubber on your tires building up and eating the tread off your tires. I'll try to post some more stuff.
