Need auto for my 86 and possibly my 83. These are nice clean title cars that I don't want to let chance have its way. Unfortunate I can't find my 800 dollar Matco electric impact and im wishing I had insurance to maybe cover it. Any good recommendations as to who and how much based off experience? Thanks Cafords

Do you mean you're looking for insurance to cover not only the car but personal items in the car as well?

Your standard auto policy runs on a "actual cash value" basis which is the same as replacement value (they both go off KBB or the local market value for the same year/make/model in your area). You probably won't agree with what they'd offer you in case of a total loss. GEICO will operate on this principle. Not to mention, they don't cover personal belongings in the car (this falls under your homeowners or renters insurance policy).

There are classic car policies which offer an "agreed value" clause so you can determine the value you want to insure it for, even while it's under construction and not at its full value yet but they're restrictive (must be kept in a garage, not daily driven, only a few thousand miles a year allowed, etc).

With that said, State Farm & AAA will surely not be the cheapest option for you but usually have the least amount of protest when it comes to agreeing on a payout from what I've heard. They do have strict driving record requirements, though.

EDIT: To add; NEVER TRY TO COMPARE WHAT YOU PAY TO SOMEONE ELSE'S PREMIUMS. This is extremely frustrating when I'd get these calls and someone says "But my cousin/brother/sister/neighbor ONLY pays $xxx!!" Insurance is very much so an individual product based on your individual factors (ZIP, yrs of experience, driving record, yr/make/model, coverage limits, mileage, etc) so comparing to your car buddy's insurance is like comparing a Mustang II to a 2012 Boss 302. Just don't. [Big Grin] [patriot]
