Anybody ever experience this with a car? Tried to register my cougar and the lady told me I either need a title bond or get the original owner to sign the car off to me. Im guessing that the original owner left the car in someones barn for 20 years and either forgot about it, don't want it or passed away. The lady at Dmv gave me his first and last name as well. How can I fix this issue?

Go to state farm. Bond cost $100 takes 30 days. Had to do it on my 77 II. Super easy to do.

How does the bond work though? Is it like a lien or something?

Kind of. If I remember right. It basically checks to make sure no one has reported the car stolen. Makes sure there are no out standing liens on the title, or that anyone is looking for it. It was retarded simple. I went in paid the $100 a month later I was cleared to get the title.

You will get a clear title, if the car had one. It doesn't savage the title like a true lien sale does.

dont forge the bill of sale, once its in the dmv system as needing a bond,a bill of sale will not do

they will only accept a notorized bill of sale from that person to you

bond is way easier

My first WHT drop had a lien and it was a clean title car. Been a little busy so I haven't went to state farm yet. I called the local pd and the lady on the phone verified the car isn't stolen. Checked both plates and vin for me.
